Liz sat in the cafe after her morning shift was over. She still preferred working afternoons, but she was helping the owner out today and the tips hadn't been that bad. Still, she was a little tired and it was only noon and she still had things she wanted to do today on top of hoping Max was going to ask her to go on a date tonight.
She took a bite of her hamburger and chewed thoughtfully. School was coming to an end very quickly and then she'd be a graduate. Liz still wasn't sure what that meant for back home - she'd probably still have to redo the last year of high school over again - but at least she knew she could do it now. University in the village was an easy decision since there was only one to go to, but back home there were a lot of good places and none of them were close to Roswell. Her mind wandered to what that would mean for her and Max.
Max's handsome face came into her mind and she smiled as she chewed on another bite of burger. She felt herself get warm inside thinking about him. She was happy here, with Max, and with no one trying to harm him or take him away for study. She thought about when they kissed and felt another wave of heat rush through her.
Suddenly a surprised cry came from a woman in a booth beside her as her coffee cup exploded upwards into the air, splashing lukewarm beverage all over the table and the patron. Almost simultaneously everyone else's beverage, including her own, seemed to leap from their cups into the air. Liz tried to avoid her ice tea, but half of it landed on her, matting her hair and drenching her pink top.
What the heck had just happened?
