Lots of Black Eyes (ota)

The village seemed to have gone to Hell again, but this time it was people doing it to other people without the help of invasions. The middle of the week had been bad enough with patients coming in thinking they had every disease under the sun and demanding tests and treatment, but now the clinic appeared to have actual patients. Bloody noses and ( Read more... )

Tip of the day, never get between a fighting couple. Olivia knew that and yet she'd found herself there anyway. As expected, both turned their ire on her and she'd wound up with a cut that needed at least a butterfly stitch. On the bright side, the couple were deposited at Haurvatat jail on battery charges. Not that Olivia would press them, but it at least gave them a cooling off period before they were released.

Martha saw Olivia as she walked into the waiting area and headed for her. Her injuries didn't look too severe, but Martha was glad the woman had come.

"Fight?" It was a safe bet this was the case, it seemed.

"Not intentionally." Olivia chuckled. "I tried to break one up but got caught in the middle."

She had to smile a little. "I wish I could say you were the first one I've seen today with that story."

Martha gestured for the woman to follow her. "Seems like most of the village is having it in this week."

"Yeah I noticed that. Village weird working a different way this time." Olivia followed her back.

"If it stays this mild, I suppose I shouldn't complain so much." She opened the door to one of the examination rooms and then proceeded to get the material ready to prep her wound.

Olivia sat on the examining table, too used to this back in Boston. "I'd like to say that it will but the village has a way of making me a liar about that."

"Has a habit of upping the ante on us if we're not reacting a lot to something, that's true." Though maybe a little part of Martha liked that - she was sure she got that from the Doctor.

Martha approached with cleaning solution to prep the cut for stitches.

"Would it be horrible to admit that I sometimes look forward to them?" Olivia said wryly. "Not getting injured obviously, but the excitement and unexpected that makes you think on your feet?"

Martha laughed a little. "No, it's not horrible. I totally understand." She dabbed the solution on Olivia's cut. "I think most of us come from worlds that are faster paced than here so we all look forward to it in some form."

It spoke to how many cuts and bruises Olivia had in her lifetime that she didn't even hiss when the solution was applied. "I like the quiet, especially with my daughter here now, but there are times when I look forward to thinking on my feet."

"You have a daughter?" Martha smiled at that. "It's nice when family shows up. Makes things a bit easier, I think." Martha missed her family and she missed Lucas, too.

"I do and yes it is." Olivia laughed softly, "though we were a bit of a surprise to my husband. When I left here, Peter and I were getting closure but not that close." Her smile turned wry, "and then for me I was gone a few years and when I came back Etta and I were a shock to him to say the least." And that was yet another reason why she loved Peter, he adapted well to the flash forward of his life the village threw at him.

Martha could only imagine. "Good man for not running away." She started to stitch the cut as she continued to speak. "Had a friend show up a while backing telling me I'm married and all these things I haven't had happen to me yet. Was a bit of a shock. Don't know what I'd do if my husband actually appeared." Particularly because she still felt married to Lucas.

"I wonder about that sometimes in the village." Olivia said wincing slightly on the pull of her skin. "How people handle it when perfect strangers arrive and they are a spouse from their future or another reality."

"I'd like to think I'd take it alright, but I'm not sure... I'm used to strange things from back home, but I think the idea of someone experiencing a whole bunch of things you haven't yet... kind of unnerving, I think."
