With auditions sorted, I finally got around to inviting Catherine over to dinner. I haven't gone to such lengths for a date in quite a while, but I've really been looking forward to this all day - a lot.
The lights are turned low and two candles are lit on the dinner table which I set with attention to detail. I even folded the napkins the way Mother taught me years ago. It's a small miracle I remembered how to do it, I usually never bother, haven't in years. A bottle of expensive French red wine I bought especially for tonight stands open to air and I put Mozart on the stereo. Dinner is slowly cooking and the scent of it is wafting over from the kitchen.
On the way to answer the door, I check myself in the mirror one last time. I opted for casual - creme slacks and my favorite blue silk shirt, sleeves rolled up a little so they don't get in the way at the stove. I open the door with a smile, hoping it really is Catherine who's knocking.
