Masquerade Ball - Gathering

The Masquerade Ball was different, this was a party for adults and Buffy had wanted it to be a little bit like the Ball in Labyrinth because seriously who didn’t think that David Bowie’s Jareth was the sexiest ever? So the entry for the adult party was more glamorous (at least Buffy hoped) and the interior continued that theme. There was an area

Christopher Chambers - OTA

Christopher is dressed like a magician for stage with an additional black/white eye mask, though he doesn't intend to perform any tricks. It just seems like a good outfit for him.

A glass of wine in hand, he sits at a table, watching the people around him.

The ball reminded Riley of ones that she'd attend when she'd been in DC. Part of the events she'd been there on bodyguard detail, but some of them had been as a guest. She wore a black vintage dress with a metal half mask.

She settled at a table next to a man dressed in black and white, smiling a greeting

Christopher returns the greeting with a silent toast, taking a moment to assess her before he chooses to address her.

"It's a nice change to see such a tasteful Halloween ball instead of the usual witches and monsters costumes."

"Yes, it is." Riley agreed with a smile. "I lived in DC for a long time and this reminds me of those galas." Then realized that not everyone would know where that was and added sheepishly. "DC is in the United States."

Christopher offers her a smile in return, though it is half hidden by his mask. "DC as in Washington, DC? I haven't been there, but I certainly know of it. I usually live in Glasgow. Scotland." He doesn't sound Scottish, though. "Alas lately -" he gestures at the room, meaning the village.

"Glasgow." Riley nodded, glad that at least he knew about the places she did. "And lately we're both from the same place." She said with a smile. "I'm Riley."

"Riley," he takes it to be her first name. "Good to meet you. I'm Christopher. Have you enjoyed the village's hospitality for long?"

"A few months." It felt weird to say that because she thought she'd be home by now. But she assumed a lot of people thought the same thing.

"Have you been here long, Christopher?"

"A few months," he echoes her words. "I had hoped it'd be less." Which probably is what most people think.

"I did as well." Riley nodded, "I'm not sure that I believe that we go back the moment we left." She can only hope it's the truth but wasn't betting on it. "But I hope so."

"I spoke to someone who's been back two times already, she confirmed it and I don't think she had any reason to lie about it." He'd probably have sensed if she did.

"Is something important happening at the time you were brought here?" There certainly is in his life. But being here actually does offer him more time to prepare mentally.

"I'm a bodyguard back home." She thought of Gabriel, "and while I know I'm not the only one that can do that." Riley smiled wryly, "I'd feel better if it was me."

That was the top level, sugar coated explanation. Gabriel was on the run, being framed of a murder, with connections to corrupt government officials. Hell yes, she needed to get back and have his back.

"I can relate to that. I have someone who needs my protection back home as well." Though in a different way, he's trying to save his ex-girlfriend, whom he still loves, from a demon and got pulled here in the middle of its invocation.

"It chafes doesn't it?" Riley said wryly. "Or that's just me." But she always had that protective spirit.

"Less so since I learned I'll eventually be back without having missed anything." Though being here certainly bothers him for a different reason.

"It's nice to have confirmation on that." She'd heard other people say that but she'd never actually talked to someone that knew someone that had been back.
