Masquerade Ball - Gathering

The Masquerade Ball was different, this was a party for adults and Buffy had wanted it to be a little bit like the Ball in Labyrinth because seriously who didn’t think that David Bowie’s Jareth was the sexiest ever? Red/Ruby - OTA

The ball reminded her of ones that her friend Snow had back at the enchanted Forest, which had Red wearing a dress that she could have worn there, too. The mask was something she wasn't used to wearing but it was also fun. Red stopped by the buffet table to grab something to eat, then went over to the tables to watch the crowd enjoying it.

Robin was at the food table, too, dressed in fine leathers and wearing a mask of his own.

He smiled to Ruby. She wore a dress more like home than others. "A bold choice of colour." No judgement, just appreciation.

"A typical choice if you know me." Ruby said with a grin. "It's my favorite color." And a calming one when it came to her wolf. She held out her hand, "I'm Ruby." Which probably would explain why she liked and wore red.

"Robin." He took her hand and instead of shaking it, decided to half bow and kiss the back of her hand like he would have done back home. It was rare he got to feel like home most of the time in the village. "And it's a pleasure to meet you. Red is quite a colour on you." He smiled.

She blushed slightly but liked the reminder of home that his kiss on the hand reminded her of.

"Thank you and it's nice to meet you, too, Robin. You look very handsome, too and I love your mask." It was both unusual and beautiful.

"Thank you. I made it myself, actually." He grinned somewhat proudly. He liked working with leather, after all.

"OH!" Ruby exclaimed with a pleased breath of air. "You're a leather worker then?" That was good to know. If she needed her leather fixed or if Kili did.

"Not exactly. I do work with leather, but it came mostly out of necessity. I used to be a Lord before I became an outlaw for standing up to the Sheriff. Not many tradesmen out in the woods." He smiled to her.

"You sound like my best friend, Snow." Ruby said fondly and a little sadly. She missed her friend. "She became an outlaw for standing up to her step mother. And she's really good with leather, too."

He shook his head. "A pity people who have the worst intent are the ones who have the ability to thwart good."

Ruby nodded, "it is. I never heard it put that way, but that describes it perfectly."

"Thankfully there are people who won't let that stand." He grinned.

"They are everywhere and what I don't understand is that you'd think the people that would do evil would realize that even if you stopped the person standing in your way another one would take their place." Ruby shook her head, "but that's what makes life interesting. You find out what you're capable of." Both good and bad sometimes.

"War is a lot like that, as well. You learn who you really are, too, sometimes." You also learned who other people were, but that was another story.

Ruby thought back to helping Snow and Charming against the Evil Queen. What she'd done in her wolf form and nodded. "I think it's the challenges in life that show you who you truly are."

Sometimes that was good and sometimes it wasn't.

"Thankfully there does not seem to be the same needs in the village as in many of our worlds." It was nice to relax and he was thankful his daughter could grow up in a safer, more just place.
