Electricity, how he's missed you.

The first thing Arthur realized, was that he was still alive. 'Oh, good,' he thought before standing up and making sure all of his limbs still worked. So far, so good. He knew he was in a different place, of course, there were no buildings or cobblestone walkways in prehistoric Earth. In fact... It almost looked like homeHe had woken with a ( Read more... )

"You look lost." Captain Jack Harkness approached the disheveled man, smile friendly and inviting, and amused, "And I don't know that that street lamp shares your feelings."

Arthur was a little disarmed by Jack. Not expecting so bright a smile or friendly a tone so suddenly. He was reminded of Zaphod immediately, though they looked nothing alike. He wiped the tears off his face with the dingy towel.

"Am... am I ...home?"

Jack sounded American and the streets were rather empty. But it looked so much like a country English town. Could he really be so hopeful?

Still smiling, Jack kept watching Arthur, a touch of flirtation there-- but when wasn't there. Which was likely much to his boyfriend's dismay. But he couldn't help it!

"Depends, where's home?" he asked, "Although I'm placing my money on not, sorry about that."

What's home? Trillian's distance voice echoed in his mind. What a time to be thinking of her...

Arthur sighed, looking disappointed. He wrung his towel in his hands, thinking. Home... It took him a long few moments to think of it. And still nothing was coming up. He decided to be a little more general.

"Earth?"

Well, that was interesting. So he was from Earth, but from a time or had experience to be aware of life on other planets. That was something.

"Oh, yeah? I'm from the Boeshane Peninsula myself." he wanted to see if it rang any bells, "What year are you from?"

Arthur only stared blankly at Jack's mention of his own home. Arthur thought hard. He'd been on prehistoric Earth for nearly three years. He'd been traveling for... well, that he wasn't sure about. A year or more? Maybe. He couldn't think. When he left home it was 2005.

"2005."

"Huh." he hadn't expected that. No matter some people in 2005 knew about space travel, it just wasn't common knowledge.

"From the 51st century myself, but I've been." he noted, "Got stuck in Wales for about...hmm, 140 years or so. Long story." Jack reached out, grabbing the man's shoulder in a friendly gesture, "But from the looks of it you've got a pretty long story yourself. Or maybe just a dirty one..."

Arthur shrugged, "Both." He glanced at Jack's hand, not expecting such a gesture. Or such friendliness. He was grateful for it. But if Jack wanted to sit down over coffee and chat, that would be rather difficult at the moment. "Um... Where...?" Arthur gestured to the street they were on.

"Haurvatat." he gestured around them, "It's a time bubble or pocket dimension take your pick. This village is it's own little encased entity. Think like a snowglobe. A snowglobe you can never leave until the globe thinks you've learned your lesson... whatever that might be."
