Early to School

Ever since noticing that Scott was gone, Stiles was very quiet. He still went to work and school- actually, he never had better grades than at this moment, but it was only because he was lying to himself and pretending nothing was wrong. All his focus was going into school, but even he knew he was bound to break down over his best friend being gone

Liz's morning classes had been cancelled, but she hung around to study and wait for her afternoon ones. She was in the field with her binder out when a gust decided to steal a few pieces of papers and blow them toward the field. Liz scrambled after them.

Stiles notices the papers as he is going to pick up the ball. He stops what he's doing and goes after them too, then he spots the girl as he picks one up.

"Hey, are these yours?" Okay, so he assumes they are but still.

"Uh, yeah." She smiled sheepishly as she scooped down to pick up one of her own. "Sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your practice."

[sarcasticstiles]

"Nah, it's cool. I'm not really practicing. I just..." He reached over to hand her the paper he'd grabbed. "I'm just bored, I guess."

[has_flashes]

"Bored? Oh. You mean with class." While Liz enjoyed school, there were days when even she got bored.

[sarcasticstiles]

"Well, yeah, I mean classes just started but they're always boring. I'm just kind of bored here, in this place. My best friend just left, so things are a lot quieter. A lot less fun, you know?"

"Yeah, I totally get that." Liz nodded. "I mean, not entirely, but, my best friend's not here either. It definitely makes things less... well, less." She wasn't sure how to explain it exactly, but Maria being here would have made a world of difference.

"Scott was here when I arrived, so this being here without someone from my world is new." Stiles grimaced.

"Sorry to hear your friend isn't here either."

[has_flashes]

"It's okay." She shook her head and smiled a little. "If she ever does show up, I'm sure she'll be angry at me. Like I had control over it or something." It was said fondly, though, since Maria was Maria.

"How long have you been here?"

"It hasn't been quite a year yet. I showed up last year right before Halloween. How about you?"

"Oh, um... it's going to be two years in December, I guess.. which sounds so weird to say out loud." She even looked a little stunned. "It's weird, too, because this is my last year of high school, but when I go back, I'll have to repeat everything again, you know?"

[sarcasticstiles]

"Wow, that has to really suck. I mean, this place doesn't have a lot of people our age. None of us seem to stick around very long, anyway."

"I heard we don't even remember this place once we leave, so it's kind if... I dunno, like what's the point of it then?"

Liz had noticed the lack of teenagers, too, but she had only ever gotten along with a small few, so it didn't really bother her too much.

"I don't know... maybe we don't consciously remember it, but we carry it with us. Like, it helps form who we are in the long run, or something."

It was nice not to have guys like Jackson here, he'd give this place credit for that at least.

"Oh yeah, that kinda makes sense."

"At least that's what I tell myself." Liz smiled a little self-deprecatingly.

"Are you playing lacrosse?" She noticed the stick. "I didn't know they had a team here for that."

"We don't unfortunately, but I was on the team back home." Stiles brightened. "You know how to play?"
