The power still hadn't come on yet which was troubling considering night had fallen which provided cover for anyone out wishing ill will. He and the other staff at Rangeman were busy as none of their computer systems were working. All their security would have to be done on foot today. That was fine with Riley - it gave him some good exercise ( Read more... )

John had been in the Holosuite when the electricity went out. The room had suddenly gone from fighting demons to black and yellow grid and it was a little disorienting. What brought a scowl to his face was that when he tried to open the door it wouldn't. Unfortunately the gun he'd had with him on the program was a computer generated one and that faded with everything else.

He slammed his body repeatedly against the door until it opened enough that he could grab it open. Sadly, the repeated hitting his shoulder against it dislocated it and while he was able to put it back, Mary would have insisted he get it looked at. So to stop that argument before it even happened he headed toward the clinic.

When she saw the man, she offered him a friendly smile. At least he didn't look like he was shot or anything - something she tended to deal with more than others for some reason.

"Hi. I'm Doctor Jones. Your shoulder, is it?" She assumed based on the way he was carrying himself, but she could be wrong.

"Yeah." John tried not to jolt it. "Dislocated it when the lights went out and put it back. Thought I should get it looked at before my wife insisted."

She had to chuckle with a smile. "A man who knows his wife. Not too many out there who'd skip the middle step." Martha gestured for him to follow her into one of the rooms.

John chuckled as he followed Martha in to the room. "It comes with years together." And more years than he ever thought he'd have.

"I'm sure there are husbands out there who haven't learned... I'm sure there are wives, too." Martha was an equal opportunity person.

She gestured for him to sit. "Can I ask how you put it back?" The shoulder, she meant.

"The wall." John answered as he took a seat. "I was in the holosuites when the electricity went out." He shot her wry smile. "Turns out the doors are connected to the computers and electricity, too."

"It looks like it might just be the power, though, which is a nice change." Martha started examining his shoulder.

"Done this before, have you?"

"A time or two." John chuckled, "former Marine." Because once a Marine, always a Marine.

"Ah. You military types are always trying to fix your problems on your own." She mock-scolded him. Working for UNIT gave her a different perspective now on the military.

"But, it looks like you got it in. You'll have to ice it a lot to keep the swelling down."

"Used to that, too." John chuckled, "maybe buy a bag of frozen peas on the way home to use as an ice pack." He'd done that a few times, too.

"Then you can have them for supper and it all works out." She smiled as she stood back.

"I'd say rest up, too, but you strike me as a man who is prone to action other than rest."

"I'm resting more than I have before I came to the village, but you're right, I'm not a sit around person." John chuckled, "as my dislocated shoulder can attest of not sitting around and waiting for someone to let me out of a room."

Martha's smile was wide - the village definitely had a 'type'.

"Want me to write you a note for your wife?" She was half joking,

John laughed, "if you want to write a note to prove that I was really here that would be great." He was joking as well.

Laughter danced in her eyes as she pulled her business card out of her pocket. "How about I give you this and if you ever find yourself in a bind and can't make it to the clinic, I'll come to you, yeah?"

He seemed like the type to get into trouble.
