Annatar was making another orchid. A different kind, smaller, but he wanted one. It wasn't exactly a reminder of Adam and Felecia, because he didn't need an object for that. Just... he had liked that piece and enjoyed its making.
It was fairly obvious that someone had been in his space. No one could get at those jewels from the outside, his raw materials. But something was gone, he could feel it. He never should have left that ruby here--he'd been working on that stone since the blood moon several years ago and it was beginning to have quite a lot of power in it. It was gone.* Distracted, he opened a drawer to get out a tool. He could still work.
*. * @.POOF! *
There was glitter everywhere. No one was around to hear the expletives in Black Speech. The drawer was closed.
Annatar went outside, glitter sparkling off him in the sun.
*He'll be able to trace that ruby (and the other stones) in a little bit of time. Several years back there was a blood moon/ghost moon and he started putting power into that stone. A blood moon is a second dark of the moon in a month, like a blue moon is a second full moon.
Ira the duck stood in the center of the otherwise deserted street. Beady little eyes glared at Annatar from less than a foot off the ground. The evil little mallard radiated anger and frustration.
For stuck in one of his nostrils was one of the jewelsmith's lesser gemstones.
"Quack," the duck said, full of malice. He ruffled his feathers and shook his head as if to say, 'I know this is yours, so therefore it's your fault.'
There was no way he could miss the duck, or the stone, not even in his present state of testy.
"I know you didn't open that drawer. The gem is still mine."
He locked eyes on the duck, willing it to be still. It was a creature of the village, being the talking duck, but he thought his power would still work. All he wanted was to take the stone back, pleasing both himself and Ira.
OOC--You can decide if Sauron's freeze gaze (tm) will work on Loki. This is Sauron without his Ring, therefore he doesn't have the power he usually would. And he won't know if this is an Eldar thing or what.
"I do not wish to hurt you." Annatar moved forward and knelt down. Some glitter fell from his hair as he leaned in to take the little stone. As soon as he had it, he stood and released his hold on the bird. It was respect for what the village could do, not particularly the duck himself.
"You didn't need that ruining your ability to breathe at all."
It was a nothing stone, but he had many of those. He looked closely again at Ira.
"If there is anything unnatural about you then it is not mine. You'd be too smart to eat something so hard: I can only wonder how this got on you like that." He pulled a velvet purse from inside his doublet. He pulled a tiny satin bag from that and put the gem in it.
"Were you coming to complain of my things in your territory? It was not my doing." Certainly the glitter wasn't. Annatar scratched idly--the glitter had made it through to his scalp.
Ira ruffled himself again and shook his body to try to dislodge any glitter that fell on him.
He quacked again at the question, seeming to answer in the affirmative before launching himself up into the air. He circled a few times (gathering height? Or making sure Annatar would follow? Who knew the mind of a duck?) before winging away back towards the duck pond.
Annatar did not need to follow the duck. He knew where it came from and so where the jewels were. The closer he was to the park, the more he could feel them--especially his ruby. The others could be lost with only a little annoyance. Not that one.
"Of course." They weren't just in the park, they were in the water. Annatar began to strip down.
Ira the Duck (the real devil duck) paddled in the pond, thoughts of breadcrumbs on his Anatinaen mind. When Annatar approached, Ira started quacking and hissing, paddling over. Irate at the intrusion.
"My gems are in the pond," Annatar said to the duck in a serious fashion. "I hadn't planned on this or I'd have brought you some bread. Soon."
He would not be so solicitous were the creature not so obviously the village's... something. Did Haurvatat have a mouthpiece?
He stripped to nudity, completely unashamed. Before setting each piece of clothing on the pile he'd shaken it out to remove glitter. He moved toward the water.
The first dive to the bottom got several lesser stones. They were small and it was difficult to pick them up from the soft bottom of the pond. A pause before the second dive had Annatar concentrating on that spot and moving outward. He got the ruby and a stone next to it on the second trip down. He was certain that there were at least two more stones but did not care enough to seek them.
Drying himself on the bank, Annatar turned the ruby over and over in his hand. *Mine*
"I am going to go to my rooms and wash," he told Ira. "I will get some bread for you. Then I am going back to the forge to see if the camera shows that anyone was in there."
Someone removed gems from the inside. Could the glitter device have been placed from the inside? He didn't know, but would certainly check.
Ira was mollified that the intrusion of his domain had largely ended for now. The next interloper would not fare so well.
The camera would show "Trickster" appearing out of nowhere in the forge, doing the deeds and disappearing.
Meanwhile, Loki drank coffee at window booth in the restaurant. When he happened to see Annatar heading back to the hotel from the park with wet hair, the deity arched an eyebrow curiously and waved at the jewelcrafter through the glass.
While walking to the hotel, Annatar saw Loki, who waved. Annatar waved back but continued on his way: he had something important to do.
The cameras showed the image of the Trickster person that Loki had warned of. This was not particularly surprising. It was actually very interesting. He had to wonder if the hotel would list anyone under the name of Trickster or how he was supposed to find this individual.

He could still ruffle his feathers at Annatar and hiss, and did, but the mallard felt rooted to the spot.

Plus there was the bribe of bread... but pity the 'elf' if the bread never manifested...

Perhaps a message on the little device?
