Birthday Bonfire! (Backdated to the 5th) - OTA! Gathering post style welcome!
Draco Malfoy was now twenty-five years old. Old. Old. The word kept running through his head. He was a quarter century old, for Merlin's sake! The notion was ridiculous - how could he be twenty-five already?! How could life go by so incredibly fast and yet so damnably slow at the same time?
Twenty-four hadn't been that bad, despite the dread of twenty-five on the horizon. He'd thrown one hell of a rager for that one, mostly out of panic and need to forget the cycle of life. But twenty-five didn't scream heart-pounding music and dancing to him. A relaxing bonfire on the beach had seemed suitable. As long as he wasn't alone, he could get through the day.
One thing the village had going for it was how easy it was to call someone and set up what one needed, send out a mass invite, and then simply show up to a party. Draco was glad he had planned for an evening affair - slathering on sunscreen all day and getting it on everything was one of his least favorite things. The bonfire was large enough to appease that human need to see lots of flames devouring burnable things, and there was a variety of comfortable seating everywhere. Strings of fairy lights gave a pleasant glow to the darker areas of the party. A popup bartender was already busy with mixing and serving drinks, and there were several tables of easy to eat finger food (including the fixings for smores, of course).
After a bit of obligatory flirting with the bartender, Draco took his very alcoholic drink on a search for the perfect seat around the fire. He did not need to look for long; after the initial surprise, the wizard shook his head as he picked up the lonely cupcake with blue frosting. The village's birthday tradition remained intact after all. The flame of the single candle seemed to wave cheerfully at him.
"I was wondering when you would show up," he said to it, and stared at it with a ponderous look. "What shall I wish for this year?"
