Kamekona was enjoying the thawed out weather. It wasn't the best weather, but at least it wasn't snowing and it wasn't cold. Winter sucked - Hawaii had the right idea. No winter, just sun all the time ( Read more... )

Pfft lines were not for Ares. He materialized in the small truck next to the cooking area in a sparkle before reaching over to pluck one of the shrimp off. Heat didn't phase him either.

"Not bad." High praise from the god of war.

Kamekona jumped just a little and then took a moment to take in the guy's clothing. He looked like someone from Lord of the Rings.

"Thanks." He grinned. "Old family recipe."

Ares popped another shrimp in his mouth and chewed. "I'll have to tell Poseidon about this. Your family wouldn't have Greek blood does it?" He didn't think so but he'd learned not to judge by looking in the village.

"Don't think so." He shook his head. "Polynesian all the way. Kanaloa is like your Poseidon, though. God of the sea."

"Ah Kanaloa." Ares nodded his head. He hadn't seen him or met him but he had heard of him. "That would explain why you do shrimp so well."

Ares laughed, he liked his confidence.

"Confidence, I like that." And because he was used to having to introduce himself in the village, he added. "Name's Ares, by the way."

Kamekona did not know who Ares was, though his friend Max probably would. Kamekona greeted Ares with a friendly, toothy grin.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Kamekona... though you probably already know that on account of the truck." Although a couple of shrimp trucks back home had names that didn't relate to the person running it.

"Did you want an order of shrimp?"

Ares wasn't affronted that Kamekona had no idea who he was. He wasn't exactly a warrior.

He gestured to the shrimp he was cooking. "Yeah make it a double and make it extra spicy." Ares liked things hot.

Kamekona began to prepare the shrimp. "You ever been to Hawaii?"

Ares shook his head, "I stay mostly in Greece, Italy, China and Japan." Wherever Xena went. "Spent some time with the Celts but not a lot."

Ares felt the same about Greece.

"Yeah?" He reached over and grabbed another shrimp. "What do you like best about it?"

He had to think for a minute - there were a lot of good things about Hawaii.

"Best part... probably the weather. Always nice, even in the winter. Food. That's a close second." Kamekona liked his food.

"So you're a fan of Apollo and Demeter or whoever you worship for sun and harvest." The weather was always perfect on Olympus so he didn't really pay attention to what it was like for mortals.
