O Father, Where Art Thou? (ota)

Anna's hand shot up to signal to the bartender that she needed another drink. She sat at the counter of the bar and was on her fourth doubel shot of whiskey. It was the burn that particularly appealed to her at the moment. While a part of her knew this was a bad idea, she couldn't help herself but to continue. She couldn't go to Dean anymore and ( Read more... )

"If Lucifer is the answer, I'm not certain the question should be spoken here," comes a whiskey-rough voice from the darkness near the confessionals.

Kilrenko glides over from where she'd been remembering her times here in the chapel quietly, wearing a dress made of sheer black material and leather.

"If I'm intruding, please forgive me."

Anna was somewhat startled by the voice. She turned her head and was thankful it wasn't Meg or any demon at all.

She exhaled and leaned heavily on the back of the pew. "The church's for everyone..." Her voice held doubt that perhaps it wasn't for her any longer.

"I've noticed Christians tend to be a bit possessive about it, is all. I wouldn't want you to be hassled unnecessarily." Anna looks like she's got troubles enough.

Kilrenko continues closer and holds out her hand to Anna. "Please call me Moira."

Anna looked at Moira's hand for a moment as if not knowing what to do with it. The alcohol was making it difficult to display niceties easily.

She shook Moira's hand. The grip was somewhat limp. "I'm Anna. Former Angel of the Lord." She snorted bitterly.

Kilrenko returns the grip's lack of firmness - they aren't in competition after all.

Then she blinks. "How does that work? I thought angels were made before anything else... ?" She gives a wry little smile. "Not from Earth, you see, so I never studied the religions much..."

"We were." She nodded, then frowned. Anna currently felt disappointed in herself. "But I decided I wanted to feel and have emotions like an idiot and I ripped my Grace out and fell to Earth."

She laughed, but it was mean and filled with whiskied regret.

She digests that a few moments.

"Would you do it again?" she asks gently. "Knowing what you do now, and having had emotions, that is?"

The questioned startled Anna out of her self pity and she paused and looked at Moira as if for the first time. Her eyes softened. They were sad, but almost sober.

She glanced to the big cross, then back again. "...yes. Even with how I'm feeling right now. It's better than not having any at all."

"So what exactly was the question? If I may pry, of course." She sits down next to Anna, half turned to face her as much as the pew allows.

"I should know better, but I fell in love with an Angel. It's never been easy. He's been here like five times and every time he's just - never seen me. And then this one does. Until a demon showed up who he apparently likes more and now... I just wanted to know what to do."

She sighed heavily.

"But our Father left a few months ago and He was never big on answering these kinds of things anyways."

Anna brought her palms to her face and rubbed, then ran her fingers through her hair. Anna felt like this was punishment for her disobedients, even if Chuck had said otherwise.

"That's hard," Kilrenko says after a moment. "It happened to me, once. I was here around five or six years ago, for nearly three years.

"I fell in love with the man Victor Frankenstein created. Such a gentle man, you know? Then he vanished. Half a year later he returned, but he didn't know me. Eventually he fell in love with me again, but it was heart-rending for a little while."

She thinks a moment. "Would you like some sagacity?"

Anna wasn't sure Castiel would feel the same way ever again. In his mind, she was already killed by Michael.

She looked at Moira. "Sagacity?"

"Who would listen to words of 'wisdom,' at a time like this?" she smiles slightly.

"Be who you are, and don't get catty about it. Opposites attract, but the differences which excite him now will make him wonder why he's with her soon enough.

"And there you'll be."

Anna had to wonder if Moira was right. A part of her wanted to believe it, but her luck in these kinds of things was not very good. Anna had no intention of being catty, so at least that was something.

"Maybe you're right..." Her voice was quiet. Castiel was not hers at the moment anyways.

"You'll be fine. And who knows? Perhaps this was something in The Plan, to help you enjoy the good times even more."

She pauses, then laughs softly at herself. "Stars, that's exactly what the priest told me when I cried on his shoulder about being left behind by Sherlock Holmes." She shakes her head ruefully.

A lot of people believed that God has a plan. Anna wasn't sure where she stood on it. She thought that He had an over-arching idea, but Chuck had been very much pro-choice which meant nothing was ultimately decided.

"I guess my first step... should be to move out..." The realization hit Anna hard.
