Castiel was so excited to have a dog- his own animal friend to love and care for! Bernie the dachshund had only been with him and Anna for a few days, but things were going well. Sam didn't reply to the message but he did show up shortly after the time he was instructed to come. Making his way across the park once he spotted Cas, he smiled a bit as he waved.

"Hey, I'm here." he looked around, briefly wondering if it was another woman.

"Hello, Sam. How was your time at the fair with Caprica?" He'd meant to visit him to ask sooner.

Bernie sat up and then went up on his hind legs as he jumped at Sam- or as much as a dog with stumpy legs could jump- then let out a small yappy bark.

"It...was good." Sam nodded his head. "She's really nice."

Then he was looking down at the dog, shifting to squat down in front of him as he reached out a hand for him to smell. "So what's up?"

Cas gave him a skeptical look as if to ask 'that's it?', but then got distracted by Bernie and the main reason he invited him there in the first place.

The little brown wiener dog sniffed at Sam's hand and then licked at it cautiously.

"This is Bernie. He's my new dog friend. I adopted him at the Shelter."

"Really?" Sam glanced up, ignoring the previous look from the angel, and then he was smiling as he let Bernie lick his fingers.

"He's pretty cute." He nodded, looking down at the dog again.

Well, it wasn't like Cas didn't keep an eye on him and Caprica during their 'date'. He just wondered what Sam thought about her. Just that she's nice, he supposed. Nice could likely mean a lot of things.

"He is and he's aware of it. He knows how to use his cuteness to its full potential." Yep, Bernie had Cas wrapped around his little paw.

Truthfully, Sam liked Caprica but he was in a sort of situation that...well, he didn't know.

"I can tell." He watched as the dog flopped onto his side to expose his belly. "Have you always wanted a dog?"

Oh, Cas knew the situation. He just didn't know how to fix it.

"Maybe not always, but I have always liked animals." He scratched Bernie behind the ear. "Do you like dogs?"

"I used to though...hellhounds..." He shrugged a bit, figuring Cas would understand somewhat. "But I do like small ones, they're cute."

Castiel nodded, grimacing. "I can see why that would be unpleasant." Though, really, he'd never hurt before the way a human did so he had nothing to really compare with being torn to shreds by a hellhound. At least not yet anyway.

"Bernie is a year and a half old, but this is as big as he gets." He smiled, pulling a treat out of his pocket to hand to Sam. Of course the dog noticed- not much got past him, and he yapped at Sam. "I'm trying to teach him 'sit' but he can be very stubborn sometimes."

"It certainly looked like it." He had seen it happen to Dean and Jo after all.

Glancing down, he smiled again as he reached out to take the treat. "I think it usually takes a bit of time for puppies to learn, doesn't it?" He held out the treat as an offer to Bernie.

"I'm aware of that. It's why I'm reading books to learn how to train him." Cas stood. "You have to enunciate well when you give the command and pack his back end gently, but with enough force to get him to sit. And then give him positive feedback by giving him the treat."

Oh yes, Castiel was learning a lot with all of this, and it hadn't been too difficult so far.

Sam couldn't help but smile because reading a book about it was something he would have down too if he had ever been given the chance to have a dog.

"I guess you and Dean might have rubbed off on me. You know, taught me a few things here and there." Well, Anna probably helped too. Instead of jumping into the unknown and making huge mistakes, Cas was working on planning and research to do things correctly.

Then again, if something major were to happen here where he couldn't take the time to do that, it was likely that he'd go back to his old ways. Still, Dean was right about him having some similarities to Sam. Like how he needed more than sexual tension to actually sleep with someone.

"Yes, well, like research for one." Cas nods. Bernie carried the treat around happily in his mouth until he found a comfortable bed of leaves to sit on and eat it.

"And skepticism. So your day with Caprica was just 'nice'?"
