Dojo workout (Closed to Clint/Hawkeye)

Jul 14, 2013 17:12

Paris entered the dojo, searching for either Natasha or Clint. He spotted the archer and headed over to him greeting him with a friendly smile. "Not sure if you remember me? I'm Paris. You were going to give me some tips on modern archery? That is if you're available today. If not, I can come back another time?"

"I've got time," Clint didn't quite smile, but then he wasn't really a smiler. "And of course I remember you. Not a lot of well known archers in history man."

Lucky shot or not, the guy was part of the whole death of Achilles by an arrow in the heel mythos.

"I for one am grateful that you know me for my archery skills instead of my other crimes." It was refreshing, this village that no one watched him pass by and whisper behind his back.

"I brought my old bow with me." The one he used to slay Achilles with, it had been in the hotel room along with a quiver of arrows (including the arrow that killed his nemesis). "But I suppose I should learn your type of bow." He motioned to the modern looking device with its sleek design.

"Your arrows, why are they different? I've never seen one with its hilt made of metal instead of feathers." He asked picking up one to study it.

"Crimes are relative," Clint had blood in his own ledger, enough that he wouldnt judge.

"And you don't need to learn a newer bow unless you want to. They haven't changed much. Materials, some bells and whistles, but basically it's the same weapon." He pulled one of the student bows own to put it on the counter in case Paris wanted to look at it. It was a compound bow, not as high tech as his own but certainly more so than a traditional longbow.

"And that one's actually aluminum and carbon fiber. I have some traditional wooden ones as well, but the composite one's have more spine. And they don't warp."

Paris listened to what Clint had to say and took it all in, fascinated by what was told to him.

The Trojan inspected the more modern bow intrigued by its design and the fact that it did not warp. He picked it up and studied the strength of it, "It feels more durable and from the material of the bowstring, I gather the arrows can fly further? Can I test this one?"

"Yeah come on, Ill show you the range." He grabbed a quiver of arrows for that particular bow and angled his head toward the back hallway to the range. "You do get better distance, and control with a composite bow."

Paris was definitely eager to try it. He made his way to the range and positioned the bow, "May I have an arrow?" He asked Clint, it was hard to line up his shot without one.

The Trojan prince grinned as he focused on the target, "Care to make a little sport of it?" If there was one thing Paris knew it was archery. "Once I get a few practice shots in of course."

He offered the arrows without comment, watching the younger man inspect the bow without commenting on form. Let's see what he could do first.

"I like sport," He grinned. "I will warn you, I was billed as the world's greatest marksman. Not that anyone voted, just what the posters said."

"I was credited for killing the best warrior Greece has ever known." Paris said with an almost timid grin. "And it brings me a small amount of personal satisfaction to have done it." It was said humbly. If History remember Paris for nothing else, let it be that.

The Trojan prince aimed his arrow and let it fly, it missed the center of the mark by a mere inches and Paris frowned. He took another arrow and tried again this time hitting his mark. "That's more like it." He turned to Clint. "I may be no warrior or expert swordsmen...those were the titles of prestige in my day...the bow was considered a coward's weapon for it was the one of my choosing and therefore it was made as thus. I know one thing for sure, I know how to hit my mark with a bow."

"I'm sure you will agree with me, that archery is by no means a coward's weapon."

History, if you were Clint, remembered that Paris had run off with another man's wife. And he'd killed Achilles.

"I've never thought of it as a cowards weapon," he agreed.

Paris would prefer history to forget about the whole Helen of Troy thing, but knew that was asking the impossible. It was something Paris was ashamed of and regretted every moment of his existence.

"I like the feel of this...composite bow. It's sturdy yet lighter than my own bow."

Everyone had things they would rather history fotgot about them.

He nodded, "Mine folds, makes it easier to transport."

"It...folds?" Paris put his bow down and stared in wonder at Clint's. "How does it affect performance?"

"It doesn't," he didn't offer the bow to the other man, somethings you didn't touch. Another man's weapon (in any connotation - unless that was your thing) was one of those things.

"Spent a lot of time working it out with R&D, first few didn't snap into place or hold shape as well as it needed."

"Such wonders this modern world has to offer. It makes me feel overwhelmed at times." Paris shook his head and replaced the modern bow with that one from his own time period. It was obvious Paris was more comfortable with the ancient weapon as he was able to hit the bulls-eye in one shot. "I can feel the difference in the pull of the bowstring. The modern one is much more powerful."

"Only because the materials are stronger, they can take more stress, and power is important but archery isn't about brute strength. It's... an art." Clint picked up his bow, selected a standard arrow, aimed, inhaled, and fired.

The arrow flew upward, obviously too high for the bullseye target Paris had been using and in a flash he'd grabbed a second arrow, loosed it and it flew, faster than the first and grazed the top fletching causing the arrow to dip.

The first hit the bulls eye and the second embedded in the wall above the target, directly in the chest of the standard law enforcement target pinned there.

"I can agree with you that archery is an art." The Trojan prince smiled a little. "You are gifted with the bow." He admired Clint's skill. "It is the one weapon I excelled at though Hector tried to teach me the sword." Paris laughed a little. "Oh, how I failed miserably. I wasn't trained to fight the way he was, because well...my parents sent me off to be killed as an infant...so I was raised by a sheepherder. We don't make good warriors." Paris sighed and took aim again, his arrow hitting the mark. "I wish I could borrow your skills and take you back to Troy with me for a day or two. You'd sent the Greeks running back with the way you hit your marks." He smiled again, or tried to; talking about how his parents tried to kill him never made for pleasant conversation. "How long have you trained as an archer? I got a late start, by Troy's standards. Most start very young, I didn't start until my early teens...Hector took it upon himself to teach me."
