Krissy sat at a picnic table in the park under one of the larger trees which gave a lot of shade. She was well aware of what tomorrow was. July 4th. It was one of her dad's favorite holidays and he wasn't around to celebrate it because not only was he not in the village, but he was dead, too.
In front of her was a cardboard box that was checkered red and white. A cheeseburger was nestled against some fries and she had root beer in a paper cup that she sipped from. It was hard not to think of family during the holidays. She grabbed her cheeseburger, turned it upside down, and took a bite from it. Her eyes scanned over some of the people enjoying the weather in the park. They seemed happy. Good for them. Krissy's eyes moved to the soda. Maybe she should have tried to con someone into giving her alcohol.
