Moon Struck - OTA

Jun 22, 2013 20:28

It always felt like the 'someone walking over your grave' sensation of a tingling along her skin when the moon was going to be full. It pulled to her in ways that Rikki didn't understand but knew that it was connected to her powers. It always had been since she'd turned into a mermaid. Normally, Rikki barricaded herself up inside her room with cardboard and tape over it on the windows besides the drapes drawn. She didn't want anything to allow the reflection of the moon in.

The problem was when she was at the aquarium, a little girl wanted to pick out just the right fish for her new pet. That in turn had Rikki leaving late and while she'd attempted to get to her room with sunglasses on (yes in the dark) it hadn't quite worked that way. She made the mistake of glancing in a shop window and seeing the reflection of the moon there. Suddenly, Rikki was transfixed, just staring at the image, her sunglasses now on top of her head and that was the last coherent thought that she had.

Rikki's hand came up to tug on the neckline of her shirt. She was hot. Very hot, like her skin was hot to the touch and could melt ice but she couldn't figure out why. If she'd been in her right mind she would have but sadly she wasn't. In an attempt to cool herself down, she reached for a branch at the park to use as a fan. That didn't work out the way she'd planned either and the branch burst into flame. She was mesmerized by the fire and a slow smile edged her lips as Rikki brought her hand up to touch it. Instead of touching it though, her hand rose further stretching toward the huge full moon. Tiny hairs all over her arm began to stand on end and that was the only indication that something was about to happen.

A lightening bolt out of the clear night sky came own in a bright flash landing only a foot from where Rikki stood. Instead of it sending her scrambling, she threw back her head and laughed. It was fun!
