Alexis was finishing up one of her rare late shifts at the general store after doing inventory.  Grabbing her jacket, she pulled it on while glancing over at Jayne with a small smile.  "Are you ready to go

J.L's used to walking quietly in the night and does it without really thinking about it. Night is a danger time back home with the machines that have heat-trackers.

He's out for a walk as he can't sleep for long hours on end and sees Alexis. He changes his direction to intercept her, but doesn't think to call out to her.

Either it's a noise or sensing him but she turns suddenly, seeing just a shadow at first but it's enough to startle her as she lets out a little squeak while jumping back.

He realizes he's startled her and moves purposefully into the light looking apologetic.

"Sorry." His voice is quiet, "I didn't meant to sneak up on you."

"Ohmigod." She presses a hand to her chest, hoping to stop her heart from racing before she lets out a sheepish little laugh. "It's okay, I'm just jumpy."

Dropping her hand, she smiles warmly then. "Though I'm glad it's you scaring me and not something else."

He's glad to see she wasn't anrgy, but he's still a little sorry he scared her at all.

He smiles faintly, then looks around. "No one's walking you home?"

"Jayne offered but i told him I'd be fine." She glances around then, curious. "You're out late. Are you okay?"

J.L.'s not used to thinking it's weird to be out at this hour, but he understands why it might seem weird.

He nods. "I'm fine... I sleep in three hour bursts and usually go for a walk or jog in between."

She would ask him if it bothers him but she knows that it doesn't.

"I'll go for walks during the summer." Because it doesn't seem nearly so dark then. "But I think I'm just a bit jumpy after the last weekend of monsters."

He nods again as his expression turns somewhat grim. "That was a bad weekend... I'm glad it didn't last too long."

[likeitoldschool]

"It was." She nods before looking concerned. "Were you out in it very much?"

[youngestscalper]

"I tried to help as much as I could... when it all first started I went to the clinic to help Kyla. She had her baby and she couldn't get out before things started to change." He's not sure where they are now, but they're talking again and that's better than before.

"Oh, did she? Did she have a boy or a girl?" She asks with a smile.

[youngestscalper]

"A boy." He says with a faint smile, but it was troubled as well as happy. "She... named him John. After her father."

"And you don't agree with the idea?" She asks, tilting her head to the side.

[youngestscalper]

"It's complicated." He glances away briefly, then looks back. "He could become a target with that name and then.... the boy is part machine."

"But here in the village he's safe, right?" She glances around.
