A Step Forward (tag Carlos Ramirez, OTA)

Remus had been able to get by on a credit basis so far, but he knew that soon, if he wanted to eat and still retain his dignity, he'd need to find a way to make some money. And so he forced himself out of bed, into clothes and out to the magic school, where he hoped he could find some sort of employment. Wandering the halls, he searched for the ( Read more... )

Carlos had his office door wide open, and he was singing to himself as he checked through his files, not caring who heard him. Life was certainly never dull in this place, for all the quietness that this place afforded.

At least it made it obvious where he was.

As Remus turned a corner, he heard singing coming from down the hall. Quirking an eyebrow, he headed toward the sound just to see what was going on - then found that the source of the noise was coming from inside a doorway helpfully marked as the Headmaster's office. He knocked politely at the doorframe, hoping the other man wouldn't be embarrassed.

Carlos wasn't in the least embarrassed by the singing display as he turned, seeing a stranger there. He just stopped singing, and took a step or two towards the other man. "Hello, can I help you?"

((Had a second pup for a day and I'm already mixing them up :|))

Remus stepped barely inside the door, extending a hand cautiously. "Remus. Remus Lupin, I'm ah, hoping to possibly find a position here? I taught at a school of magic where I come from, and I need a job, and I figure this is something I can do, and well. Yes." He blurted all of this out far too quickly, but at least he had gotten through the hard part - asking - quickly. Now all he had to do was hope.

[ooc: Ohhhh I've been there. Way too often. You get used to it. And yay for Pavel!]

"Carlos Ramirez," Carlos replied, shaking the proferred hand in return. "Why don't you sit down, tell me a bit about what you do?" He was hoping to put the nervous man at ease - one thing Carlos was was laid back.

"Yes, that would -" He sat down, took a breath and his only thought was Bugger it all. Of everything else his mind was blank, but he tried to summon words. "Well, I taught Defense against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts a few years back, dueling's my specialty. Fairly decent at charms and transfiguration. I can do a lot of things, really."

The nervousness on the other man bemused Carlos, who had never been nervous in his life - or had never let it show. "Oh, so you're a colleague of Neville's?" he asked, making the connection with Hogwarts. Seriously, how cool was working with Harry Potter people? Not that he'd ever tell them that. "What would you like to do here?"

"Er, he was my student. So, not a colleague, I'd say, but I knew him." And fought alongside him, but Remus would rather not revisit that so soon. "Well, my wand was actually... left behind when I came here, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be much help teaching defense or dueling, or charms or transfiguration for that matter. But I can do wandless magic, and I could perhaps even instruct in that?"

"We don't use wands much where I'm from," Carlos said, pulling a face slightly as he thought. "Only if we want a focusing tool. How much difference does it make to your magic?"

"Very much difference," Remus said. "I'm afraid most of us can't do much without a wand. Only those with a lot of experience can do it. I can do some basic things - summoning charms, simple transfigurations."

"And you feel happy teaching what you can wandless?" He could imagine how naked he'd feel without say his sword, or his shield glove for instance.

"It's not ideal," Remus admitted. "But the year I taught at Hogwarts was one of my happiest. I love learning, and passing on that learning."

"Then I'm sure we can find something for you here," Carlos said with a smile. "And also, if there's any classes you want to take, a lot of the teachers are using the opportunity to learn about other types of magic." Himself included.

"R-really?" Remus sputtered. The other man said it so casually. Find something for him - like it was that easy. He'd never been able to get a job that easily. This reminded him of why. "There's, ah. Something I should probably tell you. In my world you would know already, there's a record of us, but I'm, er, well - a werewolf." He stared at the desk in front of him, not daring to meet the headmaster's eyes.

Carlos gazed back at Remus calmly. "Friend of mine, some of his good friends are werewolves. I've never really had any dealings with them, but I've heard good things. So a werewolf - it's all good."
