Searching for... (Open, careful tag Ares?)

Tyr knew that using the pager was not the way to get in contact with the god of war. He didn't seem to have a temple to go to, which would have been the logical place. Tyr decided to go to the gun range and see if some practice might not just draw Ares' attention ( Read more... )

Ares was generally aware of warriors in the village. So, when one of the few that he truly considered a warrior went to the shooting range Ares appeared in a shimmer of light near him.

The abrupt appearance was enough to make one of the bullets in the grouping stray about an inch and a half from the main cluster. Normally Tyr would be upset by such an interruption but he knew better. He set down his weapon and took off the hearing protection.

"I understand you mentioned me to a family member. I'm flattered." He didn't know if there was more to it than that. "Was there something you wanted?"

Best to come out and ask.

"Just curious." Ares crossed his arms over his chest, a hint of a smile on his features as he saw the barely missed shot even with his appearance. Still, one of the few true warriors in the village.

"I noticed her fighting style and wondered if she was a protege or only a member of your family."

The answer had been not Tyr's protege of fighter and that had told Ares all he needed to know. The warrior trusted her enough to watch his children but didn't see enough to train her himself.

"A member of my family, as I'm sure you learned," Tyr said. She came with Sonya and Tyr accepted that. "She doesn't fight conventionally and she's younger than she looks."

She didn't need to train with the weapons Tyr had.

"Certain natural abilities, so she fits in with the pride." He was somewhat smug about it, and he hadn't had to do anything to get her.

"Yes, she told me she was a combination of a vampire and werewolf." Which Ares hadn't seen any commonality of a Bacchai but assumed they were different in the girl's reality.

"She was very strong." But he could also see that she needed a lot of work to reach her potential.

"Stronger than a human and very young." Extremely young.

"Have you taken a professional interest in her?" That could be interesting. She could fight but Tyr didn't think that Reneesme was the soldier type.

Ares shook his head. "Didn't even stay to watch her finish her battle." His interest had waned quickly when he learned that Sonya had been her teacher and not Tyr.

The only reason that he's stopped to lend a hand with her was that he'd noticed her with Tyr and had been curious. He'd left most mortals alone that weekend to fend for themselves. It had been entertaining and in some cases enlightening.

"I'm sorry to hear that," Tyr said. He knew he needed to be careful--this wasn't a powerless god of war nor an opposite.

"I would have liked Kodiak pride to have more interaction with you."

“Oh, I keep my eye on Kodiak pride.” Ares acknowledged. “It’s how I knew that she’d been associated with you before she said anything.” There would be another warrior out of his group, of that the God of War had not doubt.

"You keep an eye, but I was hoping for more than that." Did he need to come right out and say it?

"Some direct contact, input if you like, would be most appreciated."

Ares didn't waste time on people that wouldn't be true warriors. He was very picky who he chose to nurture and mentor and who he didn't. At the moment, there weren't any of Tyr's pride that would attract his attention in that way(beyond Tyr himself). The women were pregnant or had babies and that put a large damper on battles. Not many were like Xena, fighting or commanding armies up to the day of giving birth.

"When your children are old enough to learn to fight, I'll be there." Sadly, the fates weren't in the village so he couldn't touch the loom to see the future of Tyr's children to know which ones now would be strong warriors.

ooc: I don't know what adults (or fighting age people) are in Tyr's family beyond Margaret, Sonya and Renesmee. :(

Tyr nodded.

"I'm flattered that you don't think I could benefit from your experience." There might have been the ghost of a smile at the corner of his mouth. "I must respectfully disagree."

That's all of them. Renesmee isn't even fully adult.

Ares' lips curved in response. "What makes you think you haven't been getting the benefit of my experience?" A beat, "but if you're talking one on one sparring, you're on."

"If you were doing things without my knowledge, then I'd hardly notice, would I?" Other people he might detect, but a god was doubtful--he wasn't just being a smartass.

"I would spar with you. It could teach me humility, for a little while."

"Or a little longer." Ares chuckled. He knew that swords weren't used in Tyr's time and while he was the god of war, he could master any weapon but he would always prefer hand to hand over guns.

"Open sparring no holds fighting." He smirked, "better outside than in the dojo." The likelihood of injuries from bystanders would be higher in an enclosed place instead of outdoors.

How long he stayed humble would depend upon the severity of the lesson. If a human like Xena could withstand fighting with Ares then Tyr felt that he would do well enough. Xena was not ordinary, but she was born ordinary human.

"I can do that. I'd disarm as much as possible." It was safer, and would keep instincts from taking over. It would be rude to shoot Ares.
