Glittering Gabriel [OTA]

Nill had decided to explore, especially since she found out that she didn't have to start school till august. She worried about Maximus still, and she'd check on him later, knock on his door and see if he answered this time. But right now she was out looking for something familiar and safe, that was, the church she had found on the map she had ( Read more... )

Sam entered the sanctuary with an armload of the song books that he wished to use for the more informal Sunday services that they had during the summer.

He was a little startled to see the young lady frolicking on the pews, and started forward in alarm to catch her when she wobbled a little. He let out a sigh of relief when she steadied herself.

Nill didn't hear him till he sighed, then she looked down, surprised, and then smiled. Waving too him, still not aware she'd done anything wrong.

Then turned away from him to hope onto the next pew, wings fluttering as she stabilised. It was like a particularly tricky game of hopscotch she played.

"Please be careful, my child," Sam fretted. "You could hurt yourself badly if you were to fall."

She nodded, trying to reassure him that it was alright, that she never fell over. But since he was fretting, she got down off the top and just stood on the bench, walking closer to him, so she could wave politely to him.

Sam smiled, kind (and relieved).

"I have not seen you here before, for I'm certain I'd remember. You remind me of my friend, Angel. I'm Father Sam."

Digging around in her pocket, she got out her device. This made things so much easier.

Hello, sorry for worrying you. I never fall though, it's alright. I'm Nill.

"How do you do, Nill?" It seemed the child, for some reason, could not speak. At least she had the messenger with which to communicate.

"Would you like some tea? Or cookies?"

Nill nodded and bounced on the balls of her feet, wings fluttering excitedly, before hurriedly typing, trying not to make any mistakes.

Yes please. I would love some.

He was so nice and... not at all like Bishop. He didn't seem like the type of man that kept guns next to the sacramental wine.

Sam led her back to the little room where the tea urn and cookie tin were.

He poured her a mug of tea, and gave her a plate, and opened the tin.

"These are chocolate chip, these are oatmeal raisin, these are peanut butter, and these are called snickerdoodles," Sam said, pointing at each of the varieties in turn.

"I've no idea why, but does one really need a reason to call something a snickerdoodle?"

Nill took the chair, sitting in it, and though it was strange, crossing her legs on it, it was just more comfortable like that.

She giggled though, silently as always, at the name of the biscuit. It was a very silly name, and she said it again in her mind. Then took one of the chocolate chip biscuits and dipped it in her tea.

You're very different to the Bishop. The only thing he ever does for people that visit the church is make sure they don't accidentally find the guns everywhere. Do you keep guns in here too?

Sam frowned, wondering about his unknown colleagues behavior.

"No, I've no guns here. There have been times that the church had needed defending, and people who are far more skilled with such things than I have always come to do it."

Oh. No it wasn't for protecting the Church. It was Haine's. He keeps his extra ones there, sometimes. Though I guess Bishop could if he wanted to, I think he fights but pretends he can't.

She smiled at him, still not seeing anything wrong with it, eating her biscuit slowly. Savouring it almost. It was so nice of him to do that.

"There's nothing wrong with a bishop knowing how to fight. Many have come to the church after other careers. Why are there weapons in the church for all love? Is your world that dangerous a place?"

She wanted to say that it wasn't so much that there was anything wrong with it, it was just Bishop pretended to be less then he was so he could surprise people when it came to it. But that just made him sound even worse and Bishop was a good man, really.

Sometimes. They're a lot of gangs that run the place, and Haine works for them for money sometimes. But he keeps them in the Church because he's a friend of Bishop, and Bishop doesn't really mind, I don't think. Just doesn't like people taking advantage of the fact he's sort of blind.

Bishop she had decided awhile ago, was a great pretender.

"I don't think I'll ever be able to understand your world, my child." Sam shook his head.

"But have you any questions about this one?"

It's alright, I don't think I do either very well. They do strange things there.

She didn't understand how her not having a voice was supposed to stop her wanting to kill herself, but there you had it.
