Well, it's puzzling, but not unpleasant to have three kids come asking for him, and McClane is even smiling slightly as he comes out to see what's up.

He looks at them all, hand in hand, and the smile gets a little wider.

"Can I help you three?"

Audrey looks up at him. "Daddy how did we get here?" she asks, hair in braided pigtails. She looks less scared now, and even Lucy and Mikey relax.

"We we were just coming home from school," Lucy says, letting go of Mikey's hand.

'Daddy?' Um. Okay. John's not about to tell a scared little kid, he's not her daddy.

"You did the right thing coming to the police station," he says approvingly to the oldest.

He kneels down, putting himself at the youngest one's eye level.

"And if you didn't have your big sister here, you'd be able to tell a policeman your parents names, your address and your phone number, right?"

Audrey smiles, reciting just like she's practiced over and over and over again. "John and Erica McClane, and our phone number is 555-6974." She hardly gets out the address before she hugs him.
