Well, this stinks. (Tag Erica, OTA in the police station)

Matt doesn't show up for work. John waits a bit; the kid was a notoriously non-morning person. Finally with a sinking feeling, born of Lucy's recent disappearance, John pulls out his messenger. There's no 'Farrell, Matthew' in the directory. Well, crap ( Read more... )

She's fine. She can function and she's not so bad that she can't (eventually) make it out of bed in the mornings.

Sonya suppressed a yawn as she headed into the police station for her shift. So far, the worst she had to deal with was strong fatigue and headaches, not to mention for some reason her sense of smell going in on over drive, but she hoped none of it got so bad she couldn't do her job. After all, pregant women worked all the time.

She was headed towards the break room when she was caught by the smell of the coffee pot, and had to keep herself from gagging.

Oh lord, she forgot about the coffee here. It was bad enough with the weakened coffee they had at their suit, when just yesterday the smell of it made her blanche-she didn't stand a chance for the sludge that passed as coffee here.

How the hell was she going to explain this to her boss without sounding weak or whinny-she could only guess.

As it turns out, John thinks his coffee cup is stupid, and the coffee's stupid, and he opens his eyes, dumps out his cup, picks up the pot, empties it down the sink, puts the pot in the sink and opens the tap, letting the water fill up the empty pot, and spill over the side and down the drain, all the while staring at the sink as if he suspected it of a felony and was trying to get it to crack.

She breathed a little easier when he threw it down the drain, the smell was still there, but not as strong and it was enough for her to properly breath and head to get some water and caffiene free tea (Magaret said that placebos worked well enough).

It was also long enough that she could tell something was wrong. "Something wrong, boss?"

"Just this stupid fucking village, doing stupid village shit." He worked on getting a grip.

"They're ok, I'll see them again. I'll figure out the computer crap on my own...somehow."

Just as Deb walked in. Shitty timing there.

Deb stopped, eyes wide. All she did was want coffee. "... you okay, boss?"

"Yeah sure," he opened his eyes, lifted his head and glared at the sink as if it had just committed sexual assault.

"Kid was a fucking pain in the ass anyway." You know, the one he seemed to live to torment, but spoke of with respect and affection when he wasn't around -- that kid.

Taking a few steps in, Deb asked, "what kid?"

"The fucking computer geek, Matt." The one who'd saved his life, and Lucy's, who he'd grown to love like a son goddamnit. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, and tried to consciously unclenched his jaw and fists.

Erica's been back at work for three days, starting on the weekend which...sometimes the boss could pull in special favors when it came with sex and breakfast in bed, and taking the bottle shift in the middle of the night.

She hasn't even had the chance to talk to him because her desk looks like a paper tornado exploded on it. She's been diligently working all day, but when she hears slamming she looks up. And other NPC people are looking at her so...right. Her husband. She knows Matt is gone, but John had also said it was fine, and she didn't press.

Walking into the break room, she leans against the counter and just watches him, standing right next to him as he makes his coffee. "You still fine?"

"Why's his desk have to be so goddamned empty?" So, no.

Erica sighs softly, reaching out to rub her husband's back. "Because this village, despite everything, can be a real dick," she says bluntly.

"Yeah." John turns, and wraps his arms around her, holding her tight.

"Don't you fucking go anywhere -- not without me."
