John and Margaret exchanged glances. Then John started pretending to show Maddie one of the picture books he'd gotten the birthday boy, and Jonah climbed up next to him, then plunked himself on John's lap to get read to.

Margaret, with Sonny in her arms, approached Juliet, after giving her a moment.

"Need a hand?" Not that Margaret had any to spare with Sonny in her arms. "Need a baby?"

Swiping her thumb under her eyes, Juliet turns. "I'd love a baby," she says with a watery smile, holding out her arms for Sonny, letting out a soft breath.

Margaret hands Sonny to her, then puts a hand on Juliet's shoulder as Sonny cuddles into conformity with the new body she was snuggled against.

"Want me to cut the cake?"

"Yeah, thanks," she nods, nuzzling against Sonny's head gently. "Oh, I miss this already. Jonah smells like little boy more than baby boy now."
