But now he was starting to feel better, and had been promised he could leave the clinic by the weekend, meaning he could finally find out more about this village that had Inara so nervy.
He was reading one of the books that Wash had found for him when he looked up to see a familiar figure in the doorway. "Captain," he said calmly, even though he was feeling anything but calm on the inside. He was still not sure how he felt about Mal, or where he stood with the younger man. If only he didn't remind Book of his younger self so much.

He didn't bring anything for the man, mainly because he didn't know what to get him, but also because he still didn't have a job.

Mal still has a small bandage on his forehead from that first metal junker, and a few small bruises, but otherwise he's just fine. "Doing just fine. Still confused some about this place. Got here just before you. Then again, at least I've been outside right?"
