Just checking in [[Backdated to morning]]

A lot's been on Mal's mind lately. Most of it having to do with one particular person (Inara). He knows its awful, not having seen the Shepherd yet, but he'd been planning to this past weekend up until the robot attack. Before he goes, anyway, he has to talk to Zoe and Wash. Finding their room is easy, and he knocks on their door. One of them has ( Read more... )

Zoe is home with Maya. After the weekend and not so subtle hints from Wash, she'd promised not to go out. She wasn't hurt much, just a graze to the shoulder that didn't even need a bandaid, and some bruises. But she's otherwise fine. The baby's just eaten and is now in Zoe's arms, over her shoulder and still awake.

Answering the door, she's only a little surprised to see Mal, and steps aside. "Afternoon, sir."

"Still close enough to morning." He joked, smiling slightly. "You survive the weekend alright? Was gonna send one of those messages, but I figured my crew could handle themselves." Especially Zoe of all people.

"Time gets kind of messed up when you wake up every two hours or so. Could be midnight, all I know," Zoe says. If it weren't for the sun, she'd be all kinds of backward.

"Got to blow a couple of those things up, that was shiny," she smirks. She looks at the bandage on his forehead. "Looks like you had fun."

"There was an explosion at the temple and Inara got herself stuck." Mal shrugged. "Fought off a couple to get to her, got her home safe, then went back out to stop some more of those gorram things."

Book couldn't fail to notice the chaos that had been going on outside at the weekend, but he silently prayed for the safety of those that he knew, and all the village.

But now he was starting to feel better, and had been promised he could leave the clinic by the weekend, meaning he could finally find out more about this village that had Inara so nervy.

He was reading one of the books that Wash had found for him when he looked up to see a familiar figure in the doorway. "Captain," he said calmly, even though he was feeling anything but calm on the inside. He was still not sure how he felt about Mal, or where he stood with the younger man. If only he didn't remind Book of his younger self so much.

"Morning Shepherd. How you feeling?" Mal steps into the room just slightly, leaning against the doorway.

He didn't bring anything for the man, mainly because he didn't know what to get him, but also because he still didn't have a job.

"Better than I was," Book nodded, looking at the captain. "The doctor did a good job in fixing me up."

He hauled himself more upright with a small wince. "How are you?"

"Good to hear he has a bit more work on his plate in this place than he usually did in the black." He steps in closer, watching the shepherd carefully.

Mal still has a small bandage on his forehead from that first metal junker, and a few small bruises, but otherwise he's just fine. "Doing just fine. Still confused some about this place. Got here just before you. Then again, at least I've been outside right?"
