Human again - I need a drink (OTA)

Nov 19, 2011 20:16

Damon still had no idea what was going on. Last he'd known, he'd been in Florence, trying to figure out how to get Katherine away from Stefan's courtship and into his bed. Or on his arm. Maybe his father was right about some things--at least so far as making sure Guiseppe never cut off his allowance--and he should consider settling down. Wherein ( Read more... )

Cedric wasn't much of a drinker, but gotten an appreciation for going to places where he hadn't been previously. If nothing else, there just weren't many places to go in the village. He wasn't all tarted up as he had been over at the vampire bar, but had settled on some slacks and a Hufflepuff tunic.

He was a bit surprised to see Damon at a table here, rather than P3 or Fangtasia, but then the vampire was always a welcome sight.

"Hullo there, handsome. Mind if I join you?" It looked like Damon was drinking alone again - a sure sign that the vampire was in a mood of some sort.

Damon looked up at the young man without a flicker of recognition, but he smiled slightly at the sight of him. He was handsome, and Damon never minded spending time with a handsome young man.

"By all means," he said, waving at the other seat. After everything, he really could use some distracting company.

Cedric grinned, taking a seat. "So, how've you been keeping? Not caught up in this latest nonsense, I see?" He'd not failed to notice the various changes going on - the village powers seemed to be having their fun once again.

Damon frowned a bit. He'd been fine with the handsome boy sitting down, but now he was speaking as if they were friends instead of doing a get to know you sort of chat.

"I'm sorry...have we met?"

Cedric colored just a bit. "Ah, perhaps I spoke too soon. To answer your question: yes, we've met previously." He tilted his head as a thought occurred. "Are you recently arrived, by any chance?" It was always possible that this really was a 'new' Damon, after all.

Damon was watching him carefully. "As far as I am aware, yes, though several people have attempted to insist I have been here over two years."

Katherine, among them.

"It happens like that, sometimes." Cedric said. "People can come here from different points in their lives, and have no memory of having been here before." He smiled, just a bit shyly. "You and I knew each other rather intimately, for example."

Cedric blushed again as something occurred to him. "I'm Cedric, by the way - Cedric Diggory."

The smile, the flush...Damon drew his conclusions about just how intimately he might know the other young man. He looked vaguely stunned for a moment. Not that he hadn't indulged himself that way with schoolmates, but...it wasn't something one spoke about.

"I...see." He gave him a bit of a smile, however bemused. "I suppose you know this, then, but I'm Damon."

"Yes." Cedric said, nodding. "I'm sorry - it must be awkward for you, meeting strange people that claim to have known you. For what it's worth, I've thought of you as a friend, regardless of whatever else was between us. How are you settling in - have you had the basics of village life explained to you?"

He couldn't help but think of the awkwardness of meeting Harry 'again'.

"A little." Damon appreciated him realizing this, not expecting him to know what was going on--and not insisting everything was something it was not.

"The basics, I suppose, yes. Though most keep just insisting I'm something else and seem to think this is just temporary."

It wasn't particularly helpful when it was all new to him--not just the place but all the things within it he did not know how to use, or understand.

"It may well be temporary." Cedric agreed. "That said, I'd not want to have you left at a lose end. I recall clearly how confusing this place can be. If there are any questions you have, I could at least try to answer them."

Damon gave him a grateful, if slightly wry, smile. "I...really do not know what to ask? Nothing here makes sense--not even the clothes."

Which were really uncomfortable.

"I am surprised that you did not find familiar clothing in your room." Cedric said, frowning slightly. "That's usually how it works. I guess if nothing else, the zip fastener must have been quite the new experience. Still, some things must be a pleasant surprise, like the shower?"

"They're exceedingly uncomfortable," Damon said. "And there was nothing familiar..." He frowned a bit. "I do not know what this...shower is?"

He'd stormed out and found himself a place to get a drink. To be fair, he hadn't done much exploring.

"Oh, you do not know what you are missing, my friend." Cedric said. "It's like have your own spring or waterfall in your tub - it's quite enjoyable. And heated water as well, enough for hours if you wanted it."

Damon straightened, looking intrigued. "That sounds...like heaven." Maybe he shouldn't have stormed out with exploring more.
