Matt held his jersey and stared at his phone, and the message from the unknown caller and knew in his gut who is was from.
"Vicki?" She was the only person other than their mom who had ever called him Matty, but like usual there was no response to his call. He couldn't see her. Jeremy could though and he nodded hoping she saw him, his resolve hardened as he went back to the weight room for the things he would need, dialing Bonnie as he started back to the pool.
"I have an idea, but I'm gonna need you help," he told her. "Meet me at the pool."
"I don't understand." Of course she didn't, because he was just Matt, the useless, helpless human who hadn't been able to save his sister and wouldn't be able to save his best friend - or whatever Tyler was now.
"Jeremy can see ghosts because you brought him back from the dead. I need you to do that for me."
"No, Matt that's crazy."
"This is gonna work, trust me." And if it didn't, well he'd be back with Vicki, that wouldn't suck too much.
"No, Matt, I can't do that kind of magic anymore." He shook his head even though she couldn't see him, she'd forgotten how to do things the normal way after being up to her neck in the more supernatural elements of their lives for over a year.
"You don't need magic Bonnie, you just have to be better than I was at CPR." He hung up, hoping she got it, knowing there was a chance she wouldn't and she wouldn't get to him on time as he hooked the weight belt around his waist and chained it to the weight.
He held it against his chest and took a couple deep breathes and then he jumped. It was hard not to struggle against the urge to breathe but he thought of saving Tyler, of making Caroline happy, of Elena who was at the mercy of Klaus and let the weight drag him to the bottom of the pool without struggle.
His last thought as he lost consciousness was of Vicki so he didn't realize that he was no longer at the bottom of the pool at Mystic Falls High. It was still a pool, but it was the one in the Haurvatat Hotel.
