It's Getting Cold In Here (Closed to Ghost)

Mar 10, 2011 11:33

Anna closed the door behind her and worked her way to the kitchen with the two bags of groceries she had in arms. She normally didn't need that much food, but she made the mistake of shopping while hungry and now her fridge would be overstocked. If she regularly had company, perhaps it wouldn't be so bad ( Read more... )

The steam of the shower was creating a fog in the bathroom. The mist was visible, rising and falling as it slowly lost its heat. Suddenly the water in the shower turned instantly ice cold.

The second the cold water hit Anna, she let out a yep and moved back as are as she could from the stream of water while she tried to turn the tap. Her heart was instantly racing.

"Shit." She swore as she remained pressed against the back of the shower. Nothing she was doing was making the water warmer.

For s brief moment the woman appeared near the sink. Her form cast a hazy outline through the steamed glass of the shower. Then suddenly she disappeared and the lights started to flicker.

While Anna was trying to turn the water back to a bearable temperature, she noticed the sudden movement in the room.

"Hello?" When she saw the figure disappear and the lights started to flicker, she was no longer at ease.

Anna hurried to turn off the water. She opened the door and grabbed the towel closest to her and wrapped it around her body. While she couldn't sense anything, it didn't stop Anna's hair from standing up at the back of her neck.

"If there's someone there, show yourself."

Anna glanced at the counter and did a mental inventory of what she had to defend herself. There wasn't much.

Things were quiet for a moment and then suddenly the woman appeared behind Anna.

Anna caught something in the back of her eye. She reached for her nail file and turned around at the same time, slashing the nail file in the air at whatever it was that was behind her. She inhaled sharply when the nail file sliced through what felt was thin air.

A ghost.

She smiled with a hint of something more sinister underneath and then suddenly she pushed Anna, sending more force in her push than a normal woman would be able to muster.

Anna felt the force and she was sent backwards into the bathroom door. She landed heavily which knocked the wind out of her and caused to her fall to the ground. The nail file was somewhere on the ground, but Anna's main concern was defending herself against this spirit.

Her eyes suddenly fell on a jar of bath salts. She reached for it, unscrewed the top as quickly as possible and flung a pile of salt toward the ghost directly from the jar.

The woman's expression changed to pure hatred and she raised her hand, about to attack Anna again, when she was hit by salt and instantly dissipated.

She breathed a sigh of relief, but Anna knew that was only a temporary fix to a bigger problem.

Anna climbed to her feet and held onto the bath salts for protection. She had to make a decision now. There were clothes in her room which would make mobility more easier and then she had more salt in the kitchen.

As she stepped out of the bathroom, Anna headed for the kitchen. Salt first, clothes second.

Anna's stove was off, despite her leaving it on. Everything in the room, in fact, was blinking on and off as if there had been a power outage.

The woman suddenly appeared in the kitchen with a look of determination. "I won't let you harm another" Her voice was distant and sad and suddenly the fridge door whipped open at Anna.

Anna hadn't been ready for the door of her refrigerator to open and it hit her left side. She swore and stumbled backwards with some of the bath salt spilling on the floor in the process. The ache she felt now would definitely turn into a bruise.

"I haven't hurt anyone." She knew it was almost useless to reason with an upset spirit, but she had to try.

The woman seemed to pause for a short moment and then frowned with indignation. "Liar!" She shouted harshly as the area around her began to shake as if there were an earthquake.

Suddenly the two glass cups on the counter went flying in Anna's direction.

Anna jumped hastily out of the way. Things would have been so much easier if she wasn't trying to keep the towel around her body.

She threw more of the salt in the direction of the ghost. Her initial reaction was to draw a circle around herself with sand, but that wouldn't prevent the ghost from throwing things at her.

The woman seemed even more angry when Anna managed to evade the glasses which smashed against the far wall. But she had no time to react to the salt which sliced through her and she instantly disappeared again.

Anna had to think fast. She hurried to the cupboard and grabbed the large box of salt and swapped it for the bath salt in her hands. Then she began to spread it in the kitchen. There wasn't enough salt for the entire room, but there was enough for the kitchen.
