Making Good on a Bet [tag Rose, ota]

Methos sat in the lobby, eying the elevator as he waited for Rose. He was looking forward to seeing the woman again. Although apparently that was becoming something of a theme for him in the village. Meeting interesting women. Bela. Helen. Rose. That was something that seldom happened to him. He was no slouch when it came to women, but he was still ( Read more... )

Rose hadn't paid much attention to what the weather was like outside but she figured if it was too cold for the outfit that she wore, she'd run upstairs again and grab a jacket.

When the lift doors opened she glanced around and saw him waiting for her. "Hullo. You settlin' all right in the village?"

Methos smiled when he saw her step out of the lift, standing up when she walked over to greet him. He also very respectfully looked only in her eyes, despite that very provocative shirt that he could see under her jacket.

"I'm settling in alright. I've procured a part-time job at the antiques store, already."

"Look at you. A member of society already." She teased him with a grin. "Congratulations. Reckon you'll be an expert on antiques. Or I guess manuscripts anyway."

"I don't waste any time, it would seem." he chuckled in agreement, "And yes, I imagine I'll fair pretty well in my antiques knowledge. However, it's a 'multi-dimensional' antiques shop, so it's very likely that it will house things I'm now way familiar with."

Methos brightened a bit, "But that's sort of exciting, isn't it? Trying to decipher things I've never seen before?"

Especially for him, when so little was ever a genuinely a unique experience.

It was his expression that had her smile going wider. It was so like the Doctor's.

"It's exciting seeing things you've never seen before and it might be a bit of a challenge to see if there's something that you can't read. Ever wonder about the village? All these people comin' from different times, realities and planets. How do we all understand each other? Reckon you might find a manuscript in a language you don't know but it'll look like something you do?"

It made her think of the TARDIs and how everything appeared in English for her except that one language that was older than even the Doctor knew.

He gestured his head to the exit and started to walk, "You know, that honestly hadn't occurred to me. I've only ran into people who've spoken English... I hadn't even thought that maybe they were actually speaking another language that was being translated."

Methos held open the door for her, "It's an intriguing concept to be sure. It's definitely something I'll be paying attention for."

"First time I met someone here that was from the past and they spoke perfect English. Modern English, I mean I began thinking about it. Then when I talked to my first alien here I knew there had to be something. I mean what are the odds that someone from another planet would speak English."

The without a TARDIS nearby remained silent.

"But when I spoke Enochian, you didn't understand me." Methos pointed out, "Perhaps the village knows when you mean to not be understood?"

“Fair point.” Rose acknowledged and pulled the edges of her jacket tighter when they stepped outside. “Maybe the village didn’t know Enochian to translate it? Which could be another theory, yeah? Figure out what it does know and doesn’t.”

He nodded, thoughtfully, "I suppose I could just start speaking to you in a variety of languages and see if you understand me?"

Rose snickered, “yeah that’ll work because the only language I know is English with a bit of French and Spanish but only for cussing and propositioning.”

"Ah, so am I to take that to mean that you're a fan of a certain Abba song, then?" he joked.

"Sorry? Who?" Rose thought about it for a minute. "Oh right, my mum listened to them. What? They had a song about cussing and propositioning?" She should have paid more attention to the songs when her mum played them.

"Thank you for making me feel old, Rose." Methos sighed, teasingly.

"Abba... they sang 'Voulez vous'? No, wait, that's not the right song... sorry. It was 'Labelle'. That's right. That sang 'Lady Marmalade'? With the lyric 'Voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir?'"

[[ooc: my bad, I screwed up who sang that song. *face palm* but I worked it in ;) ]]

Rose knocked her hips against his with a grin. "You're not that old." She was comparing him to the Doctor rather than her mother. "Oh! Yeah, I know that song." Rose moved out in front of Adam and walked backward facing him with her hips moving as she sang a few bars of the song.

[ooc: Hee no worries. It was perfect because Rose wouldn't have known Abby anyway. This is how Billie's singing sounds. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5T2Ys6CDU1E ]

Methos laughed when her hip bumped into his and she commented about his age, "Older than you though, clearly."

Saying he was older than her was the understatement of the century. But he didn't really think about people in those terms. If he did he'd have a hard time of it, since he was older than everybody. She was a mature young woman with a good head on her shoulders. The fact that she was in her twenties thereabouts and he was in his 5000 pluses, was a non-issue.

He watched her sing the song in amusement, but noticing absently just how nicely her hips swayed as she sang.

"You have an excellent voice, Rose. I'm impressed."
