investigate. [[tag to Kerai, Gabriel, Alice, and John. Also Harvey Dent if he'd like to meet her.]]

Erica has three different stops to make today: The Ribbon, a security place, and a candy store. It sounds like the beginning of a terrible joke, but the only joke so far is that no one she’s talked to knows anything about this Belvedere character. It’s like he doesn’t exist, or he only exists when he wants to, and she can see why no one else has ( Read more... )

Dent walked back towards his office with a stack of copied files in his hand when he saw the new officer at her desk and stopped. John had mentioned that Evans was the new officer on the Wesker case.

"Officer Evans?" Harvey asked, pausing near her desk.

Erica looks up, knowing that he works in the building, but not sure exactly who he is. Just that he's not a cop.

"That's me," she says with a half smile, taking the aspirin with a gulp of water from a water bottle. "You are...?"

"Dent," he extended his hand across the desk, managing serious and friendly at the same time. "Harvey Dent, the DA around here."

Erica shakes his hand. "Nice to meet you. Chief McClane told me I'd meet you if I started hanging out around here long enough," she says with a half smile.

Today, the stuffed bear, Theodora, has relocated from John's shelf to her desk; silent communication. She notices it as she's smirking at using John's official title.

"You get very busy around here?"

"When it rains it pours, we went months without so much as a shoplifting and now all this. I guess it's just the village's way of reminding us that it's not done with us."

He noted the teddy bear, having seen it earlier on John's desk. Huh.

"So, you're on the Wesker case now?"

Erica sighs softly. "Yeah. That brick wall everyone's been hitting? I've hit it. I think I figured out some things that were previously unknown, but nothing groundbreaking. I'm pretty sure Belvedere is hiding him underground. Literally."

Harvey's eyebrows rose, and he looked intensely interested.

"Underground?" He'd been hitting this particular brick wall himself, daily.

"I spoke with the owner of Rangeman, Alice Abernathy? She has camera's trained on Belvedere's pub, and has never caught him going in or out. But I interviewed a man last night, said he bought him a burger inside once. According to the village maps, there's a series of catacombs that start under the library. The could connect anywhere."

"Catacombs?" Harvey repeated, realization dawning on him.

"I might know someone who'd be good at getting in there, sort of a specialist. Does John know about this yet?"

"Not yet," she says. "I just got in, I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, but letting him know is my next stop. Why?"

"That's perfect," Harvey nodded, actually looking completely alert and hopeful for the first time in weeks.

"Glad to have you on board, if there's anything you need, my office is the one everyone goes into to steal bagels from."

"I'll keep you up to date," Erica promises, then smirks. "If you ever have an Asiago bagel in there, consider it stolen."

"If I have one, I'll bring it out to you on a napkin." He flashed a wry grin over his shoulder as he walked back to his office, feeling better than he had in weeks.
