First birthday [[tag to those who know Laura, Laila, and/or Jos, timed to afternoon.]]

Sep 05, 2010 11:07

Laura really wasn't ready for this day, for her daughter to be one. One. An entire year couldn't have already gone by, but there was the proof in her little purple and green dress, crawling around the floor of the bakery. She never had free reign, but Laura didn't open the bakery this morning. Instead, she'd spent the entire night before after closing cleaning it and setting up decorations. There were balloons outside tied to a lamp post, a 'happy birthday' banner across the entrance, and even more balloons inside.

The cake wasn't anything that Laura made, it had been in the back kitchen when she went to turn off the lights the night before. There was a smaller one just for Laila to dig into and both were sitting on the counter next to the pile of gifts that had already been started.

It was with a pang of nostalgia that Laura watched Laila sit in the floor with her toy duck and make quacking sounds as she played, looking up at all the adults who were there laughing and talking around her.

(slow time is love.)
