Good times [OTA]

Dean was a happy camper. A very happy camper actually. He was the coach of a female roller derby team and that conjured up all kinds of lovely images. Lucky for the girls, Dean had been a coach at a school before. Okay the job had lasted as long as the ghost had been terrifying the school but still, he had experience ( Read more... )

Blame it on her short attention span, but Slack was unable to actually finish a full length novel these days. Therefore, rather than going to the library to check out books, Slack instead opted to go to the comic book store, lured by the episodic nature of the comic books as well as the plethora of pictures and illustrations that made the storylines all the more interesting to read.

Stepping inside the comic store, Slack grinned when she saw Dean Winchester looking through the comics and strolled right on up to him, glancing down to see which of the comics he was reading. "Hey Coach. You got any recommendations for me?"

[ooc: I figured that since he was their team coach that she would know him, if only in passing, if that's okay. Just thought her calling him "Coach" instead of Dean was rather cute. LOL]

Dean looked up from the recent Wonder Woman issue to see one of his girls. He would never get tired of thinking that. "Hey. Depends on what you like." That could have been a double entendre, the odds were pretty good it was but he also was sincere in the statement in regard to comics.

{*g* It was rather cute and Dean appreciates it. ;)]

"Hmm....something with less cleavage, thanks," she replied, looking down at the issue of Wonder Woman in his hands before gazing up at him again, an amused grin tugging up the corners of her mouth. "For obvious reasons, you know. But no skimping on the action front. Action's important."

Sifting through a box of comics, Slack pulled out one with a rather interesting cover and flipped through it. The character design was interesting, and the illustrations were high quality. So far, so good. "What do you think of this one?" she asked, showing him the comic. "Have you ever read this one before?"

Dean looked at the comic that she'd found and then back at her. "Yeah? You like action?" That wasn't said in a flirtatious way at all but in a common bond familiarity. "I'm a fan, mostly in movies. That's a good one. Have you seen the movie Aliens?"

As he asked the question, he bent down to another box next to hers and thumbed through it. Big mistake, because four comics in he found something that made his skin turned cold. Dean was seriously was going to choke Chuck.

"No, there weren't any movies or theaters in my day," she replied frankly as she continued to look through the comic book. "Everything was more or less in ruins. But I trust your judgment. I might even check out the movies sometime too."

She watched him sift through the box, then noticed the momentary pause. With her background, Slack knew tension when she saw it, and she frowned a bit with worry. "Something wrong, Coach?"

"Nothing that a good strangling wouldn't cure." He flipped past the Supernatural comic book until he found something else that Slack might like. "Here you might like this. Kinda like John Constantine."

"Oooh! Thanks!" She took the comic book from him and read the title. "Hellblazer." Hmm. She didn't know who John Constantine was, but Hellblazer sounded cool anyway. "This looks good too. I'm rather surprised you know so much about comics. You strike me as more of a...gun-totin' sort of guy."

Adding the Hellblazer comic book to her Aliens comic, Slack continued to flip through another box beside the one Dean had gone through, until she found something that really caught her eye. "Hey! Look at this, Dean!"

Pulling out a comic book out of the box, Slack opened it and showed Dean the illustrations inside, a rather excited look on her face. "This is about all of us. See?" She pointed at the man with the scarred face and knitted cap. "That's Charlie. And this guy..." She pointed to the clean-shaven man with short blond hair. "That's Riley. You know Riley, right? I believe he works with you." Tilting her head to one side, Slack smiled fondly at that particular illustration. "Aww...how cute is that ( ... )

Dean chuckled. "That's me in a nutshell. Add in cheesy horror movies you've got a gun totin', comic reading, cheesy horror movie guy. I'll admit it's been a while since I've read comics but in the village I figured what the hell."

When she held out the comic of her life he arched an eyebrow upward. "That doesn't bother the shit out of you to have people read about your life?" Then his expression went to appreciation as he looked at her hips then slowly up to her face. "Definitely not wide hips."

"You should, Dean. You should. Enjoy yourself while you're here. Do things you wouldn't get to do otherwise. Like coaching us. Hey! Does that mean if we win a match, you'll take us all out for pizza or ice cream?" She nudged him playfully. "How about it?"

A thoughtful look came over her at his remark. She could see the point behind his words. Looking down at the comic, she flipped to the very last page, and smiled a bit when she saw where it ended. "In this case, it doesn't bother me." She showed him the last pages of the comic, with Riley telling Prettyboy to take all of them up north. "I arrived here at this point. Riley was going to take us all up north to Canada. That was the plan, anyway. But Riley doesn't know. He arrived earlier than I did."

She smirked at his remark about her hips. "I'm glad you approve. I guess when it comes to comic books, for the women characters, it's all about boobs and asses, huh?" She pointed at his Wonder Woman comic.

Dean chuckled. "Pizza and ice cream for you and beer for me." Then he reached over for a Nightwing comic with a smirk. "It's not only asses for women characters. You guys get your share of ogling in, too."

She seemed to have a healthy attitude about her life in a comic. "Wait until you get your own set of fanboys, then tell me how much you like your life in a comic." Dean smirked and flipped the comics back to the Supernatural one. "My life on parade, or I guess my dad's life more than mine. Me and Sam are in books." Which while not something he'd ever admit normally, the fact that her life was in a comic book sort of ease the pain.

Slack looked at the Nightwing comic that Dean was now holding, tilting her head in thought as she considered the cover illustration. "Eh...he's alright," she said, doing a little so-so gesture with her free hand. "I'm not too into the whole ripped abs and squarish chins that most of these superheros have going for them. It's a little too perfect, if there is such a thing."

Her gaze followed the flipping of the comics, until he paused at the Supernatural one. Ah! She understood what had stunned him earlier. "I guess you can look at it that way, to have your life on display for all to see and read about," she remarked, giving him an understanding smile. "But I'm afraid this sort of thing is out of both of our hands. Have you...ever read about what happens to you in the future? Or do you already know what will happen? Like in here for me." She waved the Land of the Dead comic at him again.

"Not a clue. The books were what happened in the past and we have a source back home that tells us what's happening." Chuck wasn't the best for finding out what was the future but he did know a little. Enough to warn them, sort of, about Lilith. Just not how to defeat the devil.

"I'm not sure I'd want to know what's coming unless it was good or I could change it."

"Personally, I would opt to not know," she said. "Especially if it's bad news. I believe that the steps you take to prevent the bad things from happening will backfire...like a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you don't know and let things happen naturally, in the end, things will be the way they should be."

Sam thought about knowing the future for Sam and then telling Sam what their father said. Would he have preferred not knowing? Dean honestly didn't think so. While ignorance was bliss, it was better to be prepared especially dealing with demons.

"Maybe." He acknowledged because Sam had obsessed over it and then started to feel a damn kinship with Vampira and others like her. "I don't believe in destiny shit. We make our own. I would like to know if there's a train in the tunnel heading my way. It won't stop me from going in the tunnel but a little heads up never hurt."

"I guess that's where you and I differ, Coach," she replied with a little grin. "I believe that we were each born with our own individual destinies to fulfill, and that all of this? Everything that happens to us plays a part in bringing us closer to fulfilling our purpose in life."

She shrugged. "But that's just me. We can probably talk all day about this, but I should pay for these comics and go get other stuff done. Though...maybe you can spot me sometime? I've got a lot of stuff riding on my shoulders, being a pivot and all."

Like Dean would ever turn down an opportunity to spend more time with a hot chick even if he wasn’t her coach. “Yeah, we’ll have to agree to disagree on that philosophy.” He winked at her. “But on the other, I’m all yours. Anytime you want to do extra work, just give me a call.”
