Throughout her entire career in the army, Sonya had been exposed to death: either from her comrades or her own brushes with it. Such experiences had left her rather desensitized towards it, and enabled her to go into situations that anyone else would consider suicidal. She never thought about dying in battle: she acknowledged it as a possibility, but she never let it stop her.
This was one of those times, seven years after she had returned from the village and stopped Kahn's invasion of Earth realm, she and Jackson Briggs were called to assist Raiden with bringing down what he called the 'Deadly Alliance': a partnership between the sorcerers Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. While Sonya had other concerns on her mind, she was familiar enough with the two men to know such a partnership could only spell trouble for her realm, and that she had to be there to help stop them.
Sadly, she also knew that plans didn't always work as one would hope. There were supposed to sneak to Shang Tsung's fortress, and in theory a small group should've made it easier to sneak in, but either they had underestimated just how powerful their enemies were (that alone should've been a warning) or Shang Tsung was more paranoid than Sonya took him for (again, something she should've kicked herself for). Tsung had sent his own skeletal army towards them, and the situation went from SNAFU to CATFU in less than a second.
Sonya didn't even really consider being surrounded, she just focused on fighting her way through the ranks to get up the grand stair case to Tsung's front door. That was what was at stake, not fighting off an army with a group of only a handful of warriors. She had managed to pull a bladed, fighting staff from one of the warriors, turning to assist Johnny Cage, her adrenaline so high that she barely registered one of mummies cutting her along her side with its own weapon, only that her side felt wet and like fire. Sonya did manage to reverse the stolen weapon and swing back, decapitating the mummy, even as another one took advantage and sliced at her left shoulder through her collar bone. She stopped and killed the warrior using a chi blast from her right arm, before the blade could amputate her left one, but shock and blood loss finally took over and her vision started to fade and darken as she collapsed at the bottom of the stairs.
She wasn't sure what to expect as she lay there, feeling pass out from blood loss, she just knew it felt oddly peaceful: her last thought was that she hoped at least one of them would make it and defeat the two sorcerers. Sonya also felt a tired sense of relief that when she next woke up, she might see the faces of her brother, her fiance, and all those who had died in battle. Instead, Sonya felt herself become conscious again: she felt the heat of the sun on her face, the stickiness and smell of her own blood drying up on her clothing, and most of all, she felt light-headed and fatigued, signs that clearly meant she was alive and not dead-even though she could remember dying.
It was a struggle to open her eyes and sit up, and the sight of the once familiar woods and village confirmed that she was now very much alive. Her left shoulder was sore and stiff, but otherwise whole, and when she looked down at her stomach and tried to rub away at some of the blood (with little success): all that was left of the spear wound was a long jagged scar across her abdomen.
Her legs felt weak, and it was through will alone that she managed to stand up, but truthfully Sonya barely registered any of her physical discomfort. She just wanted a shower, and to see if Renemsee was still in the village: she kept her promise and still carried the duplicate photo of the two of them. She also couldn't understand why the village called her back, instead of allowing her to pass on.
Despite the heat, Sonya zipped up her jacket to cover up the blood along her stomach, but it was a lost cause as her jacket was also torn and covered in blood. The best she could accomplish was straightening up her hair and avoid attention to herself by avoiding the main street of the village.
ooc: Sonya Blade's back in the village. Find her anywere near the entrance of the woods and the village. She's weak from blood loss but it's not that severe to need medical attention and she's unharmed besides.
