The past weekend had been interesting, well not interesting so much as... Depressing. But depression could lead to a definite surplus of interesting. He had heard about a lockdown from Zenon and the craziness outside his room, but hadn't ventured out to see what the fuss was about or even to check up on the other guys or Sarah... Everything came second to one thing: Babe was gone.
Bill knew it that day when he woke up and Babe wasn't in his room ready with some smart-alec remark. He knew it when out of simple curiosity he checked the register at the front desk and Babe's name wasn't listed anymore.
So that's how it felt.
Bill didn't know what his friend had gone back to. Was the war over? Was Babe headed back to more concentration camps?
Pausing in the wiping of the booth in front of him, Bill shuddered slightly before continuing to wipe down the table top. It had been an uneventful day so far and as he remained unnaturally silent, he hoped it would stay that way.
