His shoulder still hurt like a son of a bitch. He'd lost the sling, but it was sore and he couldn't lift a damn thing. Nix could only wonder how Blaire was doing, and thought maybe he should check in on her, but he was in too foul a mood.

He couldn't believe Compton was here. More than that, he couldn't believe Dick hadn't told him. It was no secret that the two officers did not get along, although if you backed Nix into a corner and asked him for an actual reason why, he probably wouldn't be able to come up with one.

But that didn't mean seeing Compton at Babe's party hadn't pissed him off. Nix dragged on a cigarette as he reached in his jacket pocket for his flask. He'd already satisfied the need to fuck with Compton by telling the dancer he'd left with that she should probably mace the guy if he came too close. Now all he had to do was get properly drunk and he would be all set.

Nix settled himself into a chair outside the newly repaired cafe and unscrewed the cap to the flask.
