Reality Intrudes [Closed to Hadrian, Lara Raith]

It is not the unfairness of it all; really, Severus is used to that. It was that he thought he had time. Time enough to figure out a game plan, and perhaps, finagle some sort of relationship with the son he couldn't bring himself to tell anyone about. Hadrian was nervous. He didn't know why he was nervous, he and his father always got along. Or as well as to be expected given who they were, but this was different. Out tonight
You'd better park the car
Well out of sight.
Cause if they catch you in the back seat
Trying to pick her locks,
They're gonna send you back to mother
In a cardboard box.
You better ru--

And just like that, the turntable is relieved of it's burden, and the place falls into quiet. Snape doesn't make much noise; he's not a man with a heavy tread or thumping footsteps. But he gestures to the dining room off the side, and says, "It's small, but here it's home."

Dinner is fetched from where it's warming, a lemon-pepper chicken and rice, with some green salad. Snape enjoys few luxuries, but the village allows him to eat well, read well, and often, keep to himself he wants to. Really, the only two rooms with any opulance or decadence at all is the kitchen and the lab -- those are where he lives. The rest ( ... )
