Unsuspecting - OTA (tag babe)

Speirs had been spending a lot of time thinking about what he and Babe had talked about. It was bizarre to hear the other soldier express the same fears and insecurities Speirs himself had gone through a number of years before. It wasn't that Speirs had completely resolved them, or didn't occasionally think he was sick and wrong somehow, but he'd ( Read more... )

Crews was fascinated with the village since his arrival on Saturday. He hadn't spent much time in his room. It was too small. It wasn't quite eight-by-six, but it was small enough to remind him of darker times. Crews, as a result, spent a lot of his time out, wandering and getting a feel for the village he found himself in. He switched to civilian clothes. A nice pair of pants, a long sleeve shirt, and a comfortable jacket and he was eating a plum as he walked casually down the street.

Speirs saw him out of the corner of his eyes and paused. He looked exactly like Winters, but didn't walk like him at all. The military swagger was gone.

But just in case..."Sir?"

The normal response to someone addressing you as sir and you didn't know them was to look confused about it. Crews didn't have that reaction. He assumed that this man was just very polite and he did have a few years on the young man. He smiled like he knew Speirs. "Yes?" He took another bite of his plum. It was really delicious.

"Sorry, sir, I thought maybe you were another double." He didn't quite sound like Winters, but the smile was confusing.

"Another double of what?" He took another bite of the plum. It was a good plum. He really should have bought more. Maybe the grocery store still had some left.

"You've met Ron, haven't you?" Speirs was beginning to get confused. "There's another man in the village who looks just like you."

The plum was weird.

"Really?" He hadn't met Ron, but he hadn't met many people yet. The idea fascinated him. "Just like me?"

He was frowning heavily now. "Yes. Just like you." Hadn't he met Ron? "I thought you'd met Ron, sir. My mistake."

"Nope. Haven't met Ron." He took another bit of the plum as he casually added, "But I'm pretty sure I haven't met you either. At least that I can remember." Crews smiled.

Speirs closed his eyes in annoyance. "Sorry. I thought you were my CO." So there were two men with Winters' face now.

This man had a similar expression as Detective Reese. He finished his plum and tossed the pit into the garbage nearby. "I look like your CO?"

"Exactly," he said with a short nod. "And like a man named Ron Weasley, but he's british."

"Huh." He sounded fascinated. "I hope they're good men. I'd hate it if there were people walking around who looked like me who I didn't like."

"They are," he confirmed, "What's your name?"

"Charlie Crews." He held out his hand to the man. "It's nice to meet you."

"Lieutenant Ron Speirs," he said as he shook the offered hand. "Sorry for the mistake."
