After a night spent searching, there was only one conclusion that Wesley could reach.

Rachel was gone. His gorgeous, funny, sexy fiancee was gone. The village that he'd loved had kind of taken his nuts in a vice and twisted. Fantastic ( Read more... )

Zelda hadn't seen Wesley in a while and finding him in the park she gently laid a hand on his shoulder, face furrowing in concern when she saw his blank look.

"Wesley? What's wrong?"

It was a moment before Wesley responded, then he turned his head. Zelda.

There was some irony there that he wasn't in any place to appreciate. He looked away again, back at the jogging path. "Rachel's gone."

Zelda moved around to settle on the bench next to him, the ultrasound photos in her pocket not the appropriate thing to bring up.

"I...I see. I'm so sorry. I know how it feels. Perhaps not the degree you feel, Wesley, but the pain of it is familiar to me."

He knew what she went through was worse. But it was too raw, too fresh for him to muster anything. "...thanks."

Jason had work today and after breakfast they all waked out the door, Tim with a bundled up warm David riding his shoulders, headed for the park. It was good to finally get a break from schoolwork and such. Reading Shakespeare can be daunting.

It was when Tim put David down on the ground that he noticed the guy looking not so good sitting down. Then, well, he noticed the gun.

The hell?!

With his heart beating rapidly, and instructions to David to stay right where he was, Tim approached him, hoping he wasn't going to go postal once Tim opened his mouth.

"Hey." He smiled. It was tentative and forced.

Startled, Wesley looked up, frowning. "Hey."

"Uhm." He didn't look dangerous. Well, save for the gun. So Tim took a breath and then said, "Don't get offended, man, but, uhm..." Shit! Man had a gun! "...Do you really have to go to the park with a gun?" Tim pointed at David a few paces away. "Kids play 'round here, man."

What? Wesley looked up at him, baffled. Then over at the kid. The

Oh, shit.

He jumped, realized what he was holding.

"Fuck. Sorry. I-- I was going to the shooting range and decided... not to."

He put the gun back into the back of his pants. "Sorry."

They had finally let her leave Rangeman. Convinced for the time being that she wasn't going to mutate, and to verify it they'd taken blood - a lot of it.

So now she was wandering, Mistah J was gone, Mister Ranger had fired her (though Lilah said she could work for her) and she was tired and achey still.

Wesley, when she saw him, looked worse.

"What's wrong?" She perched on the bench next to him.

Looking over at her slowly, Wesley had to smile, just a little, though it didn't last long. "Hey, Harley."

And he looked away, back at the jogging path. "I don't have a girlfriend anymore."

"She broke up with ya?" Really? He'd seemed so happy...

Another dry laugh and Wesley shook his head. "She's gone. From the village. Gone." Kind of like the Joker, it seemed. Heh.
