Arrival [ota]

Getting back to the line was all that Joe Toye thought about as he lay in the aid station with his arm in a sling. He was scheduled to leave for the hospital tomorrow, but he didn't want to go. He had already gave his spot yesterday to a man who lost his arm. A hospital meant weeks away from the front line. Away from Easy Company and his friends. ( Read more... )

Magdalene hurried through the park with Shilo. The weather was a bit chilly and the dog was taking forever deciding if she needed to pee or not. This was not the most enjoyable situation ever and Magdalene shivered slightly. Shilo took off, yanking her leash out of Magdalene's hand and the opera singer swore, chasing the dog.

Shilo stopped in front of the new guy and sat down, tail wagging hard. Shaking her head, Magdalene went to apologize for her dog but she caught the look of the mans uniform and her eyes widened. "Oh my god. What happened to you? If you're hurt I can take you to the clinic." She knew where that was.

Joe looked down at the dog, tempted to reach out to pet the animal, but was distracted by the approaching woman.

"What?" Joe looked at her and her expression. "No. No, I'm.. fine." He still didn't understand how he was fine. A minute ago he could have sworn he lost a leg. He rubbed his face with a hand, "I'm a little confused, though."

She watched the man for a moment, confused as well. How in the hell was there that much blood but he looked unscathed? When he mentioned he was confused, her almost white eyes found his. "Did you just show up here?"

If so...that would answer a lot.

He looked around. Since it was obvious this wasn't the forest outside Foy and, while cold, wasn't the same cold he had just been previously in, Joe deduced he had just 'arrived'. To where, he was uncertain.

Joe nodded and responded slowly. "I guess you could say that, yeah."

Speirs was contemplative. Or at least about as contemplative as he ever got. A night spent with Lipton was definitely something that would send him in that direction, especially since nothing had really happened. Strange.

He was taking long drags off a weathered cigarette, walking with his usual carelessness for the cold, hands bare, collar turned up to hide the marks on his neck. He hadn't quite gotten over that one yet.

But then Joe Toye was standing in the street, looking dazed. Speirs came to a halt and looked him over. Covered in blood, but not hurt. His blood? Had the village given him his leg back?

For some reason he felt eyes on him and looked in the direction. He stood up straight and recovered into some resemblance of attention. "..Lieutenant."

"Toye," he said slowly stepping forward. "Wounded?" Just to make sure. He exhaled the smoke in his lungs and looked him up and down.

"No, sir." He glanced down at himself. "Thought I was, but.." Joe couldn't explain it and he wasn't going to try.

Zenon had never been one to sit back and let people bully her. She'd spent about a full days worth inside and the more she thought about it, the more she was angry. Angry at herself for letting herself feel bullied, but also angry at Ba'al for making her feel this way. There was no way she was going to give any viral alien the satisfaction of keeping her inside, so she was out. In fact, if she ran into him, she'd have words.

She should be in school, they only had a week left before holidays, but she opted to go to the bakery instead. She had Trooper, her golden retriever, with her as she walked. Her mind was focused on cupcakes. That was, of course, until she thought she saw a familiar uniform. She did a double take and realized she did recognize the uniform, but not the man. That could only mean one thing.

Zenon turned and ran up towards Joe, only to some to a gradual stop at the blood. Her eyes widened. "Zedis Lapedis! Are you okay?!"

The sight of a kid was jarring. While he realized he was not outside of Foy anymore, the thought he was still somewhere in war-torn Europe held heavy in Joe's mind and it wasn't safe for a kid to be out in the open as she was. "I'm fine, kid." He immediately surveyed for threats. "You should probably get inside."

She'd already in inside plenty, but she understood where the guy was coming from, so she'd cut him some slack. Besides, he was from Easy Company and that sort of skewed Zenon's impression of him already.

Zenon shook her head. "Worry-down. You're not in the war anymore. You've come to a village called Haurvatat and no one's going to shoot you here." Well, not usually anyways.

Her turn of phrase was strange, but he understood it. Joe would always feel like he was in the war. Being physically present wasn't always a necessity.

"Haurvatat. Where's that?"
