Betty gets a reality check (OTA)

Betty stared at the destruction of the café. It had been cleaned up but it was obvious that it had been a scene of death and violence. She was used to it growing up in New York, but the village had been a sort of idyll from the gritty reality of her life for her and she assumed the other residents. That wasn't the case any longer.

She turned away and watched the people passing by and noticed the subtle difference in their walk. They were more alert of their surroundings. Betty was sad that violence had arrived in the village but as the manager of the newspaper she had to report on everything. No matter how distasteful.

Tucking her laptop under her arm, Betty made her way to the park and a picnic table. If she was going to write about violence she wanted to be surrounded by beauty. She was also determined to do fluff pieces to offset the negativity. Stories about the people that were a part of the village. She also needed to find out the name of the murdered victim to do a tribute to him. Hopefully, someone in the village knew him and could tell her about his life before and during the village.

With all of her heart, she hoped that he returned to his world. It would destroy Betty to think that she could die here and her family never know what happened to her.
