By the time he'd finished his third clip, his shoulder ached like hell. Ranger lowered the glock and removed with one hand the ear protectors he wore, keeping his other arm tucked close to his chest to relieve the weight. He really shouldn't be using the shoulder as much as he was, but he hadn't wanted Stephanie to know about it, so he'd continued on as normal. He'd even carried Liber under that arm, which was really a mistake. The dog was getting heavy.
Ranger stared down the alley to the target he'd essentially shot into ribbons. Joseph was dead and gone, for good this time. Stephanie would be out of the hospital today or tomorrow. Everything should be fine. Except Joe Morelli was in town and Ranger was almost scared to go back to the room because he was certain his things would no longer be there.
"Damn it," he said under his breath, leaning with his hand braced on the short counter in front of him, head dropped.
