Rehearsals

Erik was not present at the rehearsal today, or he didn't seem to be, at least. He was still in no mood to deal with people, so on stage was a very detailed set of instructions for each actor. There was also a general note telling the company to rehearse as planned, and that Erik was watching. At the end of rehearsal, they were all to go backstage ( Read more... )

It is very quiet when I enter the opera house for rehearsal. My part is not so large or important, but I have never done anything like this before and wish to do it correctly. Singing in a tavern or in a circle of men is one thing, but on a stage is another--and I'm not sure about the acting part. Making the men believe I am perfectly calm and in control when I'm really not is a form of acting, just not like this.

It seems that even our director is not here, if that is truly Erik's role in this. I read the instructions and go through my lines until others show up. It is actually rather peaceful in here.

Georg never really did theater, but he supposed it wasn't too unlike piano lessons, where, when you messed up, you might get struck on the hands.

As angry as the director looked, however, he didn't want to imagine the fellow with a switch.

It seemed he arrived before Diwata

...in fact, before almost everyone.

"Where is Herr Director?"

The question comes from a young man I don't know. Nor do I have a real answer for him.

"I have no idea. There was no one here when I arrived, just this note." I hand it to him. "Until more people arrive, this is mostly what I'm able to do anyway."

I need to memorise, so it makes sense. I stand to introduce myself.

"I am Faramir from the land of Gondor in Middle-earth. My part in this show is the younger prince--Rapunzel's prince." I know now that she is a young lady with very, very long hair. I'll need to learn these stories better.

He read the note.

...was the director not going to be here?

This was certainly unexpected.

"...oh. Oh - ! I'm Georg Zirschnitz," he said. "I play Jack...nice to meet you, Herr Faramir."

Yuri had tried to convince Mughi that he did not want to watch the first rehearsal. Maybe not, but he wanted to go with her. She tried a last time to ditch him at the outside door but he wasn't having any.

"Fine," she huffed. "Just stay out of the way."

The cat gave her a Look and trotted down the aisle to flop spectacularly against one wall. He proceeded to have a quick wash before putting his head down for a nap. Yuri just rolled her eyes and checked out the note pointed out by the second of the princes. He looked sort of prince-y to Yuri, but nowhere near as pant-worthy as Cinderella's prince. Yowza. Then again, this one didn't look as sullen as the other guy either.

Yuri went to read through everything, wondering where the hell Kei was.

I'm late, ok? "Hiya, have we started. Hey, Moog." I wave at the cat. "Sorry, I wanted to find my denim shorts and couldn't. I think they're on the Angel. Made me late." I'm a little out of breath, but I ran from the hotel, ok?

"No, we haven't really started. There's a note floating around. It says that the director isn't going to be here and gives instructions of what to do. I'm just looking through stuff before read-through." Yuri wasn't sure how read-through worked with so many songs. It might just go really fast. "There's nothing wrong with what you're wearing, so no biggie."

That was kind of odd in itself, there wasn't anything wrong with Kei's outfit. Huh.

"No director? That's pretty weird. Hey, this is an opera house. You don't suppose there's a phantom around somewhere?" Grin. What a silly joke.

"Whew, I thought I was toast. I'm just out of it today. Whoops!" I drop my script.

Natalie was trying to pretend like she wasn't excited about rehearsal, but the script she was holding, already highlighted and full of notes, was a bit of a giveaway.

She walked into the rehearsal, saw the note, and sat down and sighed. She opened her script and went back to memorizing, waiting for everyone else to arrive.

Yuri saw her, had noticed the woman briefly when looking at the casting sheet. Then she'd got busy with Kei and her 'granddaughter' and ended up not speaking with anyone else.

"Hey," Yuri said, walking over. "My name is Yuri, but you can call me step-mom."

It took Natalie a second to realize what this girl was talking about. Of course, her mind had instantly jumped to 'OH MY GOD DAD GOT REMARRIED? THEY GOT DIVORCED? MOM DIED?' But then, she remembered where she was and who she was playing, so she gave a little wave.

"Oh... hey. I'm Natalie. Uh-- congrats on the part?"

"Hi. Congratulations to you too. I have to admit I was thinking more in the lines of your part than mine. I also play Red Riding Hood's grandmother and the voice of the giantess." Yuri made a face. "Kind of makes me feel old."

She was so not old!

"But, it's being on the stage and it should be a lot of fun. The guy who is playing Prince Charming is a total stud muffin." She mimed drool coming out of the corner of her mouth. "You know?"

I look around and don't see the director so I go to center stage and say, "I am here, party has started officially! Wooo!"
