Time Enough (closed to Billy)

A couple days, fine. A week. Two even. NO problem. But this was getting ridiculous. He wasn't answering his phone, he hadn't come by her lab just because though it was an old habit of his, he was officially avoiding her.

What she couldn't figure out was why. Well, okay she knew why, they'd kissed it had been a little too close, a little awkward ( Read more... )

The door pulled back after a minute or two and a teenage boy peered back at her from the other side. He pushed his glasses back into place as he tried to recollect where he had seen her before - she looked familiar.

"Hello?"

The mildly sarcastic comment she'd prepared for Jack died on her lips, this must be the roommate he'd mentioned. A slight smile as she recognized the signs of geekdom creased her face and she shook her head.

"I'm looking for colonel O'Neill. Jack."

Billy opened the door wider and had a slightly perplexed expression on his face.

"I'm sorry, but Jack has been prolixly absent." Billy wasn't really sure if that was like him or not.

Then Sam's face clicked in his head,

"You're one of his military compatriots, right?"

Big words, Jack had to love that.

"I'm his second in command. What do you mean absent? How long?"

Billy thought for a moment.

"Approximately two weeks."

He gestured for her to come into the room.

"When I arrived, the room was in disarray." But that wasn't necessarily unlike Jack.

"However, there was a compact disc in the Digital Versatile Disc player. You were in the video recording."

He picked up the dvd and handed it to her.

The disk wasn't labeled, and she frowned.

"I was on the video doing what?"

"Erm" He fiddled with his glasses looking a little embarrassed.

He gestured to the dvd player, "Maybe you should see for yourself..."

She eyed him and then took the offer cueing up the dvd player, a few moments into the dvd of her and Lara's 'greatest hits' so to speak she flushed.

"Son of a..."

Billy stood there a littl awkward. "It was on when I arrived." He felt like he had invaded her privacy, even though he hadn't meant to. "Once I determined the material, I promptly disengaged the machine."

But Jack hadn't, so he'd must have left while it was running.

"Was there.. uh.. anything else, a messenger slip or.. something?"

She turned off the dvd and moved to put it in her pocket.

Billy looked around thoughtfully and then moved towards a table where he had put all of the things that had been laying around the day to get them out of the way.

"An envelop with Jack's surname transcribed."

He held it out to her in case she wanted it.

"Am I correct in deducing Jack is in some sort of exigency?"

There seemed to be genuine concern on his face.

"Isn't he always?" she muttered half to herself. Which wasn't really fair considering it was usually Daniel in trouble.

She took the envelope, turned it over in her hand a few times.

"Someone set him up...." Someone who had access to the casino cameras and knew Jack well enough to know what buttons to push. Ba'al.

"Damn."

Billy frowned. Whatever situation his roommate it seemed serious.

"Are you in need of my assistance?" While he wasn't aware of what exactly was going on except for the fact it sounded like Jack was captured, he knew he could help if she needed him to. He wasn't sure if he could call upon his zord here, but he was fairly confident he could still morph if he needed to.

"Colonel Samantha Carter, right?" Then he motioned to a group photo on Jack's night stand of Jack, her, a burly looking man he understood was named Teal'c, and the archeologist.

She glanced at the picture, she had the same one in her room, and almost smiled.

"That's me." She considered his offer. "I think I know where he is." In general anyway. "I'll go on my own but I could use some back up. Give me forty eight hours. If you haven't heard from me call the local police."

"My name's Billy."

Billy nodded. He didn't like the idea that her going by herself since, presumably, this is what Jack did as well. However, he also got the sense he couldn't stop her.

"Forty-eight hours." He took a mental note of the curent time, then added, "Good luck."

"Thanks." She'd probably need it. "Remind me when I come back, that I was going to offer you lab space." She smiled wryly.

"Always better to take apart electronics that don't impede O'Neill's ability to watch the Simpson's."
