An anniversary has passed (Open, virus or not)

Jan 04, 2014 11:14

Yesterday was the anniversary of my death, a fact that I didn't even notice until after I'd eaten supper. I've been becoming more at peace with it, for a number of reasons. It brought me here, for one and I'm not actually dead at home for another. I just never thought I could forget the actual date, not on the date. It brought me outside smiling ( Read more... )

Kilrenko stands outside Antiquitus, watching the workmen put up another piece of plywood over the broken glass window of her shop. Bruises mar her neck and face, and a mildly peeved look creases her brow.

The last eases as she sees Faramir, and she waves to him. "Hello! How have you been?" Though it may be notable to the Captain's senses that she's having to unruffle her feathers to be pleasant, perhaps.

I'd noticed the shop but not thought of it.

"Valar, I've been fine. Obviously you have not." She's injured. "Do you need to go to the clinic?"

She doesn't seem to, but it's hard to tell.

"Is that your shop? What happened?"

"I'm healing," she shrugs, turning her attention fully to him. "A man walked in a couple of days ago and punched me in the face. We fought until I had to kill or be killed."

The corner of her lip curls in annoyance, "Since then, one or more people have decided to keep re-breaking the replacement windows overnight."

"He simply walked in and struck you for no reason?" No name, just a man, and she ended up needing to kill him.

"Perhaps that is why I feel..." Well, I don't feel it, but I know it's there. "People are angry. I hadn't really noticed until today."

I did not go out much yesterday.

"I was a bit distracted later yesterday, but that had nothing to do with anyone but me."

"The only thing I can think of is I may have offended him last time I was here."

She raises her eyebrows at him and asks, "Who distracted you?"

"That would be a while for him to have been angry." It makes no sense. I'm guessing she does not wish to speak of it.

"I distracted me. It was the date--and I did not even notice until after supper." We've already spoken of it. "The third day of January was the day I died. It has been seven years now."

Seven years.

"I came into the village six days later. I was healed, though my clothing was still destroyed. I've only two little scars from the whole thing and I didn't remember until after supper yesterday." What a remarkable thing.

She smiles and asks, "How does it feel? To have the date pass so unremarked, that is."

She turns her head to order the workers to continue the repairs, then leave a bill on the counter when they're done; and returns her attention to Faramir again.

"It was a little bit strange to realize, but it was a good thing." It was just another day. "I am obviously much more at peace than I was. Though it does not seem to be so for the village itself."

Not just the man who was annoyed at me.

"That's good to hear. Say, I was just thinking of heading for a bite, would you care to join me?"

The phrasing strikes me as odd for a moment, then I realize that I've heard it said that way before.

"Yes, I would. I knew I'd need to eat some time soon and I wasn't planning on cooking." Or I'd have stayed in.

"The Restaurant, Cafe, or do you have some other favorite?" she asks, falling in beside him.

"Not the changing restaurant. I generally go there when it is a date--though I have gone with friends." Richard and I went and it served steak. Good thing, and Richard liked it a lot. "The cafe is fine. It would be a little silly to go back to the hotel restaurant."

Not ridiculous, and since we're out already, the cafe is more likely.

"The cafe it is," she smiles.

"The biggest thing I miss," she says after a little walking, "Is Polgara's cooking."

"I miss that, too. It was very much like a piece of home." There has been nothing like it since.

"I miss my friends who have left more, but cooking can be like a friend." With the woman making it friendly, but somewhat daunting.

I'm moving very slow. Sick.

"Yes," she says quietly, then quirks a little sad smile. "But I suppose I grew used to having no friends. That ache no longer twinges in the dark hours of the night."

(ooc: If you need to stay abed longer, please do.)

"I never had many friends at home. People around me all the time, yes, but not really friends." Being alone is easier than that.

"This is a good place to make friends."

Even though she is not at her best due to her shop difficulties, we are getting along.

Up and down. Can't actually sleep. Cat scared of violent productive cough.
