Okay..this wasn't entirely what George was expecting. He knew that there were all sorts of types in the military but..hell, there were broads here..another darf..a knight..were those cowboys?
Out of habit, he picked his dress greens that had been in his closet for awhile. Least they would be useful for something.
Strangely enough, seeing all of these oddballs helped feel him more at ease. After all, this was what they trained for back home (he thinks), and even he had to admit that being totally idle in the village wasn't doing well for him.
Yuri saw the green uniform and had a twinge. There was an old-fashioned look about it, and not just old-fashioned for her. Her own uniform was a lot smaller, and not even vaguely dressy.* Well, Tristan had liked it.
"Hi," she said, coming over. "I'm Yuri. Um... I was just wondering what time period you came from back home."
*Shorts and halter, boots, glove on her left hand (she's a lefty). Yellow with red trim. She's also got a wrist band on her right wrist and an arm band on her left arm.
The guys often called him 'bug-eyed' back home, but looking at the blue-haired broad in that get-up...his eyes just bugged out of his head.
"Yuri..." He wasn't sure which to look at first: body, her hair..damn..her features made her like a Jap, but hell if he recalled the Japs looking like that.
"I'm George." Thank god for his quick skills. "It's 1945 where I'm from-you some sort of futurist broad?"
He overheard some of the broads here talking military. Okay, he always figured that if his sisters were sent to war they'd guilt and scold the nazis into surrendering..but he couldn't think just what sort of uniform that would be for. It sure as hell didn't look like a nurses' uniform and it sure as hell wasn't in anyway camouflage.
"Broad?" Yuri wrinkled her nose. "Makes it sound like I have a really big butt."
She did not, thank you.
"Good to meet you, George. It's 2145 back home. Kei and I were flying back to Pacifica after a mission and got pulled in. Our ship is on top of the paintball arena." She shrugged. "We were kind of surprised to find out we were in the past."
Yuri knew from 1945.
"He left a long time ago, but I dated a guy here who was in World War II. It was 1945 for him, too." Tristan was taller and from England, which this George obviously wasn't.
He held up his hands in mock surrender. "Easy..easy..it just means 'woman' that's all." Least she didn't slap him.
Thought his eyes did wander when she mentioned her butt-she was right, she didn't.
"Well damn...2145. Bet this place is ancient to you." Christ, HE suddenly felt ancient.
She must've really not been Japanese then, if she dated a guy from his time. "Really...you think there's hope for me?" He smirked, playing up his big eyes. Now that the shock was gone-and he could look past the blue hair-he felt free to flirt around.
"I know what it means, I just get this awful image when I think of 'broad'." She did notice the look and didn't mind at all.
"It's not ancient. Some of the people I've met are from way earlier times. I traded self-defense lessons for a dress from this lady from the 12th century." Yuri laughed. "She'll be able to smack her husband the way he used to smack her and he won't be able to say anything. Like he's going to admit his wife beat him up?"
Ha ha.
"Hope for you? Why, are you interested?" Yuri could be quite the flirt. She was a bit taller than he was but that wasn't a big deal. "There is a certain charm to old-fashioned men."
"Hey, I can be a classy guy if the dame...lady..wants me to." He gave an easy sort of laugh. "And hell no, it's just a way of calling any guy who's classy, charming and over all a good looking fella."
Kinda like himself if he didn't say so-either that or it was just the effect she had on him.
He chose to not say that a few weeks ago, he would've been the last sort of man she'd look at even in a uniform.
He couldn't help but give her 'uniform' another look over. "Yuri..not to be rude or anything, but that sort of getup mostly screams 'wanting to have a good time' than 'takes work seriously.'"
Even where he was from, women in the military wore skirts or pantsuits-neither of which were that skimpy.
"Came in at the end of March, so...about four weeks or so-how long've you been here?" Must've been awhile, from what she was going on about.
"You can talk to the 3WA design team about that. You know the guys don't wear anything like this." Yuri didn't mind, but she was used to it. "They also look a lot more serious with weapons. I've got my Bloody Card (tm), but that's flat. Kei with her big guns looks more ready for business."
She thought about it.
"A few years. Seems like a long time, but I'm mostly not getting shot at and don't have to deal with the chief's garbage and the idiots in the lab, so it seems to fly by."
He wondered what a Bloody Card was, but given the lack of space on her 'uniform', it most likely had to be flat.
"Thank god for that..the damn PT uniforms we had to wear were bad enough." They weren't even proper uniforms, just dark blue shorts and undershirt. "I like being fully clothed."
Especially after Bastigone..he would've been dead in minutes if he had a skimpy uniform.
"Hey, I'm fully clothed. If I weren't, you'd notice." She'd like to think. "We have other uniforms for stuff--water, outer space, the battle bikinis and other body armor."
Yuri laughed.
"We did get into a secret base once because Kei opened her top. The guys were staring and we beat them to the ground. Then we took their uniforms." Men could be so easy.
"They aren't convenient for long-term use or inclement weather, but they do the job."
"They were a couple of idiot door guards. Real mission-oriented guys have to be taken down the hard way." There were good and bad soldiers everywhere.
"I like it better when we don't have to hurt people. Then again, our missions are short-term. You guys have a long haul. Or had." She didn't know when during the war he came from. "Not that I know a lot about the second world war. More than most from my time, but that's not saying much."
She'd learned it mostly because of Tristan, and that was the British POV.

She enjoyed being treated like a lady.

"No..bastard won't admit that." But then, no one but bastards admitted to hitting their wives-the sort that needed straightening up with a nine-iron.
The flirting was a nice change of pace. "Call me 'Prince Charming then'..better than 'old fashioned'."
He didn't need to feel ancient.

Yuri laughed, not at all in a mean way.

Sometimes, a girl needed to be a girl.
