Nathan had heard about this from Buffy. He'd seen the message of course but hadn't known what it meant. Whoever he was 'partnered' with needed to know that he couldn't feel and that was one of the reasons why he hadn't become a cop here. He didn't like people knowing that about him, but Buffy had nagged convinced him to just sit in on it. So he was here.

The man looked uncomfortable to be here, but he wasn't the only one. Declan had been in the village for long enough to recognise that some people had never necessarily interacted with others in a situation like this, but were willing to try. And that's all he wanted - people willing to try.

"Hello, I'm Declan MacRae, organiser of this little gathering. Welcome."

Not just the village, but Nathan didn't mention that. "Yeah, I was here for the voice going and the killer fog." He nodded.

"Those were fun," Declan said, shaking his head and sighing. "Sometimes they are as full on as that, sometimes less. But we like to be prepared."

"Where I'm from, it's a place called Haven and they have something called the Troubles." Nathan began because this much was something people knew. "When I first came here I thought it was a result of the Troubles. There'd been a child that could bring people into his dreams and it was real. Still another that could manipulate weather with their emotions."

"The Troubles?" Declan couldn't help but ask, his curiosity piqued. "Those things you describe... sound something like what I have in my world. Except we call them Abnormals."

Nathan's own curiosity was piqued. "Abnormals? The people with the abilities are called Troubled. It actually comes and goes or I guess goes into a dormant state."

Declan cocked his head to one side. "Dormant? That sounds different to our world. You have the abilities from birth to death, though they may be dormant till puberty."

"Oh it's always inside of the Troubled." Nathan hastened to explain. "But every decade or so they inexplicably go dormant." Not really, it was connected to Audrey but there was no way that Nathan would mention that fact.
