Jack had his post but he was also able to slip away to go check on Sam, letting his unit know he'd return. He was giving everyone a chance to check on loved ones if needed and he'd wait until last. Once it was his go he made sure he was loaded up and made his way towards the hotel, praying against all odds that's where Sam was.

He could feel the fear of something happening to her, or even losing her bubbling up inside his gut. He took what he could out along the way, stopping to help anyone he saw in trouble along the way. He could see the hotel in sight finally.
