((OOC: Posting this now, since I'll be at work at six tomorrow. ;)))
Fantine had been up since very early, cleaning the apartment ten times over, making sure everything was exactly as she wanted it to be. She and Meg had been working on the menu and the food for days, and the apartment smelled of cooking pies, and the rest of the dinner that they had decided upon.
She was very excited, and very nervous. She had never hosted any sort of dinner party before. She had never had a home to which she would even consider inviting people, and even if she had, nobody would have come. She had never been a lady, or even the sort of woman that decent people would associate with. Decent women, anyway. Men apparently had a different standard of 'decent.'
There had been a little bit of the matchmaker in her decision to invite Faramir. She was very fond of her roommate, and very much wanted to see her happy. Perhaps if she could bring them together enough times, her friend could find the happiness that she herself had been denied.
And inviting Steerpike...it was as she told Meg, of course. He was new to the village, and she wanted to show him welcome and kindness. That was all. She shrugged uncomfortably at what she knew to at least be a partial untruth. She didn't know what exactly it was, but there was something about him that attracted her, that made her want to know more. There was sadness in his eyes that made her want to comfort him, and he was so very, very charming. He was even handsome, in a non-classical sort of way. Well. Perhaps it wasn't just altruism that made her invite him tonight. She very much wanted to see him again.
The timer dinged, and she ran to the kitchen to remove the last pie.
"Meg! I think we're ready," she called, trying to keep the nervousness out of her voice.
((I think this would work best as a mini gathering...does that work for everyone? Then everyone can talk to everyone individually and together. :) ))
