Fantine hadn't meant to come to the fair. She had nobody to go with, and going to such things alone seemed...sad in a way. But the music had drawn her in, and the happy sounds of children laughing. She did not begrudge the young lovers as she saw them walking arm in arm along the fairway. She had known that feeling, of being on the top of the world, of feeling as if the world revolved around your partner. She had known love, even if Félix had not loved her in return. And it made her happy to see so much love around her, even if she was alone.
She stopped to watch the Ferris Wheel, covering her mouth as she saw how high the giant wheel took the couples. Then she watched a few of the games, smiling to herself as the victorious carried their prizes to their sweethearts. The world went on turning, and love continued. It was as it should be.
After a while, she bought a pastry and sat on a bench where she could watch the people, dreaming of how her own Cosette would come to things like this with Monsieur le Mayor. He had said he would care for her, and he would. And her life would be better than anything Fantine could ever have given her. That was what mattered.

Eponine needed this. It was her third time on this spinny ride - she couldn't remember what it was called - and she was feeling energized and excited (if a little nauseous). She had been studying for weeks, until the very thought of reading another page made her want to explode. But she had kept going, kept going, forcing herself past these moments into another chapter. She was learning a great deal, but she also needed a break from it, and this was the perfect break.
When she was a little girl, a fair had come to Montfermiel. She remembered going with Azelma and her mother. That fair had nothing on this one, though. This one was beyond her wildest dreams, with so many new and exciting things, and terrifyingly wonderful rides.
She was a little wobbly as she stepped away from the ride, struggling to catch her balance, but the look on her face was pure joy.
[[OOC: Just tell me which one you're tagging. :)]]
