Musuem Staff Party (Closed to Museum Staff)

Jul 01, 2009 11:32

Every place of employment needed time to relax and for the employees to get to know each other, even in a small place like the village of Haurvatat, which was why Chuck had decided to throw a party for the people who worked for him, or rather, with him. And what better day than on Canada Day? All the Canadians he knew in the village were long gone ( Read more... )

He was relatively new to the museum, but he was familiar with some of the names, at least. Peter took pride in know about his surroundings. It was a survival mechanism. The party was a good idea though and he wanted to take the opportunity to meet people as much as he could. His eyes looked over the room as he sipped on his drink. There was definitely an interesting bunch here.

Brennan wandered into the party, unsure of what to expect. The Jeffersonian ones were always rather large and you could easily stick to your own group of friends while trying to avoid people in which you were not interested in speaking. At this museum, however, she knew almost no one and was sure the party would be much smaller. She also knew that she should be trying to make more of an effort to socialize and network while she was here. It may help her and Booth figure out how to get home.

She picked up a glass of punch and surveyed her surroundings. Social interactions were never her forte but she also wasn't one to hang back and wait for others to come to her. She spotted a man also giving the room the once over and she decided that he was as good a place to start as any.

Purposefully and confidently she strode over to where he was and smiled as she stuck out her hand.

"Dr. Temperance Brennan, ancient artifacts curator."

He smiled when she approached him and shook her hand firmly, but not overbearingly so. "Peter Bishop, a bit of everything." His smiled turned into a grin. "Though I should probably talk to Chuck about getting a better title."

That name rang a bell with Brennan. "This may seem like a strange question, but is your father here too?" She remembered the man Michael she had met telling her about a father and son with that name who could be a resource in helping her figure this place out.

Edited to add: I'm SO sorry I flaked on this post!

John (and Carolyn too actually) had not wanted her to go to the party, but she'd needed to get out. She loved them, was greatful for all the care they'd given her but she'd woken up restless and out of sorts.

So she'd insisted and because John knew the alternative was tying her down he'd relented. But she had a curfew.

She hadn't even had a curfew as a child.

Still she'd made it, and she was mingling and sipping a cup of something fizzy.

Ruth smiled at a familiar face but she couldn't place which area the woman had worked. "Hullo. Nice party."

"Lovely," she agreed laughing. "Very sedate but you can tell we're all just waiting for a chance to get freaky."

She offered her hand, "River Song, Archeologist."

"Archaeologist? How interesting. Ruth Evershed, Researcher. More linguistics than actual research." She shook River's hand with a laugh. "Are you taking bets as to who will be the first to dance on the table tops?"

The Doctor was investigating the food supplied. Deserts. Sugar. Whoops.

All nation days were silly celebrations, but the Doctor smiled at the thought of celebrating Canada Day. Still who was he to stop anyone?

Ruth walked up to the dessert table and nodded toward the man standing there. "Any recommendations?"

Time to blow Ruth's mind

"I'm trying to decide if any of them have got pears in them," the Doctor said, looking at one dish suspiciously. "I think that one does."

"Do you have an allergy to pears?" Ruth asked picking up a plate and putting some fig cobbler on it.

Ruth had seen some of the employees around the museum but she'd never stopped to talk to any. While she was never much of a party person, she did think it was a great way to meet people that you worked with. Though, it was hard to imagine a party on the grid. Her lips quirked at the thought.

She picked up a glass of wine and began to circle around the gathering stopping to talk to a few people as she did.

Posner was dressed in his usual attire of a crisp white button-down shirt and nice slacks which meant, of course, that the sandwich he was currently eating was prone to get on his shirt. He glanced down and there was a mustard glob in the middle of his shirt. He frowned and looked around, in search of a napkin. The shirt was ruined.

Ruth could sympathize. She'd dropped quite a few samples on her clothes in her lifetime and new today would only be a matter of time. She held out a couple of napkins that she'd procured for herself. "Here." She smiled sympathetically. "I've also found that sparkling clear soda will get out most stains."

"Thanks." Posner flushed. He had been hoping no one saw him and his mistake, but it wasn't the case. He took the napkins and started to dab. "I probably should have stuck with something safer... cheese and crackers maybe."

The party seemed a necessary evil, like the existence of the Daleks.

Or perhaps not quite as dramatic.

Not that the Doctor (this incarnation anyway) was anti-social. Far from it, though he saw little point in staying very long as these sorts of get-togethers tended to exhaust him after a while. But for now he was about, and smiling, and doing lazy orbits around the food table wondering which sandwiches he ought to try. He'd already gathered up a Dagwood sized stack upon his plate, which he was somehow handling without toppling over.

"That's a pretty impressive sandwich." Peter saw the man hovering and wondered if he was planning on making the sandwich better. Somehow the state of the man's plate reminded Peter of his father. "Now if only we were more like snakes and could actually bite into it as a whole. That would be impressive.

The Doctor shook off the compliment with a shrug. And that shrug didn't dislodge a single cold cut either. "Yes, terrible pity the gravity's only Earth-normal. Imagine the heights I'd reach with only half the Gs, eh?"

He inhaled, about to espouse on the physical attributes of the Mara before thinking better of it and simply offering his hand to the young man. "I'm the Doctor."

It was definitely a good question. "Don't go giving the village any ideas. We might wake up tomorrow with no gravity and everything floating up into the air." It would definitely be an experience though.

"Peter Bishop." He shook the Doctor's hand. "Are you a particular Doctor of something or did you just happen to get a PhD of general knowledge?" It didn't really exist in his world, but in others, who knew?
