Hello, public post! It's been awhile.
The only purpose of this one is to showcase the sadness I feel regarding the loss of my beloved '91 Tercel, affectionately named Guito (long story, tl;dr).
Pictures, sad stories and perhaps one of his favorite songs can be found...
The tale of Guito the Great is a sad one. He was a brave and noble warrior who went down with a fight, sustaining a battle wound (broken gas tank covering) and other minor injuries (leaky sunroof, ripped driver's seat [see picture below]). He served as a faithful automobile since his creation in 1991 and was under the command of an elderly man (named Guito) until 2007, at which time he found his way into the hearts of the O'Brien family (except for the mother who wanted to burn him at the stake).
His flaws, though many, made him stronger. The ice cold water that tricked in through the leaky sunroof woke the driver up, preventing possible accidents (a bonus considering Guito is not equiped with air bags). He fought for the ones he loved.
In late 2007 he was fitted with a state-of-the-art, surround-sound compact-disc stereo system (purchased for approximately $40 at Canadian Tire and installed by a man with little to no experience in the area of car steroes [my father]). It was installed with extreme care as not to damage the exquisite plastic interior (was glued into an open hole [cut with a saw] in the dash using heavy-duty superglue).
To an untrained eye, Guito looked rather dirty and messy. However, this was an attempt to disguise the natural beauty that hid underneath children's fast-food toys, CDs, and university textbooks.
The focal point of the interior was, without a doubt, the pineapple airfreshener (inspired by a memorable episode of How I Met Your Mother) and the Samuel L. Jackson (in Star Wars) keychain hanging from the mirror.
Guito was, however, more than just an excellent car, a method of transportation, a work-of-art-on-wheels or an exemplar of the perfect vehicle. He was a friend and a brother. Guito had many excellent adventures in his life time, including a trip to Mabou, a trip which many thought he would never make. Guito did not turn down challenges but accepted them with intense enthusiasm and determination. Despite the fact he rarely managed to drive faster than 80 km/h, you'd never find a car with more drive (pardon the pun). Even though the back windows wouldn't stay closed in extremely cold weather, Guito didn't complain. Instead, he decided to let mountains of snow pile up in the back seat in an attempt to enjoy the winter festiveness.
And so ends this chapter of Guito the Great's life. His future remains hopeful, his destination unknown. As he buckles down for life with a new and more deserving family (my aunt and uncle), will he remain faithful? Will he protect them at any cost and deliver them from harm? Time will tell (but most likely he shall).
Goodbye, Guito. Your spirit will live on and your legend shall be told to those who wish to hear it.
His favorite song:
You Give Love A Bad Name - Bon Jovi(A staple on many mixed CDs and playlists)
* I really, really hope no one took any of that seriously.
